F'ing CV axles!!

I was going to replace the driver side axle seal on my crappy '92 escort GT, but when I was pulling on the axle to pop it out of the tranny, The F'ing thing came apart.

Anyone have any tips for getting 1/5th of an axle out of the tranny? It's basically just the input shaft thats still in. The rest got thrown acrossed the yard.

just pulling on the shaft will never pop it out of the trans, if it does youve got bigger issues

If the cup is gone off the old shaft get a big vice grips to put at the base of the shaft () and use that to pry against or pound on

Have fun with that...I went through the same thing with my 89 Escort Pony. When I popped out the rest of the shaft though, the little circlip broke off and fell in the transmission. At that point I said fuck it and junked the car.

Sometimes people have the worst of luck with a car, and at that point it's just best to part ways. I've fished a circlip out with a telescoping magnet type of thing once. Lots of patience and the car being on a hoist (that and being a customers' car) was the key.
