    Clutch adjuster quadrant questions.

My clutch seems posssesed. When i bought the car it would make this clicking noise when you'd push in the clutch and sometimes between shifts. It hasn't done it since the day i bought the car. I figured it was something to do with the car sitting for a couple years. 1 day something snapped and i lost the clutch peddle, but it came right back. Again, been fine since. Until today. I go to the fairgrounds to register, i no sooner leave after paying my $55 and the clutch starts acting up. It's like it keeps going in and out of adjustment all by itself. By the time i get home it's fine again. Is this something i can limp thru the weekend for Car Craft or is there a chance it will leave me stranded. I have a new quadrant but i don't have the time or the capabilites to replace it before Car Craft. I have to go to the Thursday Pizza show to deliver a car i sold tonight and Car Craft is tomorrow. Am i safe to drive it?

    Hmmm. Well, if this helps:

One day long ago, Nick (outrun) and I were in my 1984 Mustang GT in St. Cloud, I don't even remember why. I came to a stop at a stoplight and as I was pushing the clutch pedal down....snap! Totally lost the pedal, could not engage the clutch at all. It was the quadrant that broke.T and it left us stranded.

So personally, I'd be a little worried taking it anywhere, especially in the cities.

Quadrants are really cheap to replace, but the price doesnt reflect the pain in the ass you will receive while replacing it.

I just called my buddy at RS motors in Burnsville. He's gonna do it. I have the part (THANKS LES!!!!!!!!!!!!!) I would try it myself but i have very limited mechanical skills. If all data says 3 hours, it'll take me 7. Gotta go. Bye.

He has my old stock quad wich is not broke. Tim I would try and oil your cable too, most likely from sitting it has rusted a bit inside and is hanging up.

And yes I WATCHED mine get replaced and it is no easy task!
It is a damn poor mind indeed which can't think of at least two ways to spell any word.

Pfft, the quadrant is a piece of cake to do. Pull out the drivers seat and it is very easy.

When I replaced my clutch quadrant, I didn't think it was hard to do at all? At least I didn't really think anything about it, i.e. "this is such a PITA to do" or something. And I'm no mechanic.

Then again, I'm still somewhat of a small guy (LES says so) so perhaps it's easier for me to get into nooks and crannies like that and work?

I just put in a Summit cable that has an adjuster where it goes on the shift fork, and a metal quadrant by the pedal, and I threw a firewall adjuster on for good measure. Didn't really take me long, probably spent the most time making sure I had everything adjusted right.

If it's supposed to be a pain/hard, did I do something wrong again?

You did it on your own time and at your own speed. Then it wouldnt be so bad , having to get it done in a hurry in this heat is a bitch to get up under the dash and do. And um guys try doing it with a cage in the car. It limits where you can lay to get under the dash.

You can still pull the seats out. I pulled mine out a couple times with the cage in the car already. No big deal.

The quadrant is a little bit of a pain, but take your time and don't get frustrated and it is really easy.
