Ok. Well either way with 4-5k you still really can't do a 347. New bearings, rings and seals on the 302 along with H/C/I is still going cut it close to keep within the 4-5k budget.Originally posted by Joe M View PostHis car has high miles.
Which means it needs a rebuild to begin with...

Not necessarily. Depends on how 'high' the miles are. For example, Macs Stang's stock 302 had over 170k on it and from what I understand it was nearly perfect when it was torn apart, and it had A LOT of nitrous go through it.Originally posted by Joe M View PostHis car has high miles.

It was only replaced because he got a deal on a complete 327 setup.
If its using oil or has low compression, then yes, a new rotating assembly might be in order.

why would you need more then an 8.8" rear end for something with 300-350hp?Originally posted by waterbug1999 View PostThen add the $$ for a new trans and a rear end, I am sure that will go next with the extra HP..
seems like his street tires would break loose before his rear end exploded.

True, but if he goes to the track, that will be a different story.

sure with stock top end and cast crank you could build a 347 for much cheaper than 5K. It's all in the parts. stuff like milidon pan and windage etc. $500. heads $1500 good rot assembly vs cast, Ibeams, hypertecht .Originally posted by chicostang95 View Postthank you guys for all the answers but hightech told me for a new 347 i would b spending around 5k.. so i wasnt sure if it was worth it or not,,
Some people will probably disagree, but if you got your hands on some stock cleavland heads and rebuilt them with porting and put them on a 400+ cube cast crank I beam rodded cleavor. It would be very fast even with a little hydraulic cam and could be done for $5K. Headers might get ya though.Mustangless!

5k for a long block 347 is fair. But like others have said, you will need other things. Such as a better clutch your rear end wont hold together forever, a better fuel system, will probably want a better ignition system there are more things but that right there with you doing the work is an easy 1500-2000 worth of parts.Servicing your Auto, Home, Life, Commercial and Collector & Race Car Insurance needs

I just talked to a friend today that built a 427 windsor for his shelby. He paid $1500 less than I did for my 347. He made 20 more HP and more torque across the board. But the killer is that he has a hydraulic cam and he revs his motor 1000 RPMs less than I have to while idling much better as well.
If I had to do it over again I'd have went with a tall deck sbf stroker.Mustangless!
