    MSD please eat my sac.

So It's about time to put the latest motor on the dyno and I gotta finish up the spark plug wires.

I first bought the custom fit msd wires and they were not custom fit. Way too long. So I took them back and get the universal cut to length multi-angle kit. MSD rate these wires at 40-50 ohms per foot. I checked em all and 6 out of 8 wires were what they advertised. The other 2 wires are about 2-3 feet long and have a resistange of 2400 and 8500 ohms. WTF. I even cut off the connectors and tested the raw wire and same readings +- 100 ohms.

Anybody else have issues with MSD wires. I know lots of people have had problems with MSD ignitions and distributors.

i have msd distributor, msd plug wires, and an msd box, all works real good for many years.

As long as MSD give me 2 new wires for free I'll be OK with it.

It's not like they were double what they should have been. They have 40X the resistance they should.

and it's not the fitting. I cut it off and the wire is bad. I could see this happening with the cheapest auto value junk but I paid $90 for these wires.

Meh, there is almost no current flowing through plug wires anyways...

but still. 40X the claimed resistance. It's pure bullshit. 8K ohms is gonna effect some sh!t.

I just put a MSD digital 6 in my car today. I don't like it.

Under no load with the high rev limiter set at 7000 rpm's it breaks up at 5800.

Under load the rev limiter works fine.

What the fuck happens if I miss a gear and am spraying when it hits the 5800
              mark and breaks up.

              BAD SHIT!!!

              Fucking junk.

I got a digital 6 as well. it's still better than the 6AL. All of the other companies 6 series ignitinos are digital while MSDs is analog and the most expensive.

I don't know a lot about the other brands but I know plenty of people who've had probs with 6 ignitions and MSD dizzys (which I have a pro billet as well) and I now got a bunk couple wires. I'm pissed, glad I checked em.

did you run the signal wire and the +12 volts seperately? That may be your problem. Mine did that ant Tims car did that and after they were seperated, it hits no imaginary rev limiter. Sounds simple, but it worked for us.

damit. I take the 2 wires down to TNT and Jon puts them on the MSD test box. It gives a resistance of like 3-400 ohms.

I take em back home and put them on my multimeter and it still shows 8,500 Ohms. WTF if going on here.

The multimeter reads the correct claimed resistance on the other 6 wires.

I find it hard to believe my multimeter reads correct on some wires and incorrect by 40X on other wires.

Ya know, I am not sure how much resistance in plug wires really matters in the grand scheme of things. The gap in your spark plug is something like 40,000 ohms by itself, so when I see these plug wires advertising minor differences in resistance, I think it's mostly the marketing department talking. I am no wire expert, but I think just about any CD system in a NA car is probably way over-engineered anyway. Blower cars are a different story, I would guess.

indeed. I couldnt run stock ignition with my blower without it breaking up really bad above 5k.
