    Trans shop recomendations please.

Any reliable tranny shops within 30 miles of Blaine or so? I'm thinking about S/Cing and building up my 5-speed (T5) in my 89 GT.

Don't bother just step up and get a G-force t-5 or pay someone to build you a g-force t-5. You could also buy a tremec tko 500/600 about the same money.
A few guys on here can build the t-5 for you or you can order it done.
      Progress. Should be fun.

        a friends s/c 400 rwhp car lasted 15,000 miles on a T5 with 120,000 on it.

Finally broke 3rd gear. He upgraded to a viper spec T56.

I'd say if you expect like 300-325 ish RWHP, the stock T5 might last.

Lakes Transmission in Forest Lake does awesome work. Have had all of our transmission work done there - lots of CSVT's too. They build transmissions for everything - the pics on the wall also say they build hardcore drag racing transmissions as well. They are a local shop - privatly owned and are awesome to work with.

I can't believe how low some of their prices are.

A friend outright (no core) bought a th350 from them for $300 bucks completely rebuilt with a manual valve body.

I know - and they do kickass work! I love walking into their shop and watching them work on your stuff. I feel better that they are privatly owned and have older, more expirence techs working there. They seem to have a lot of awesome cars going in and out too!

Sounds like a shop I will definately check out.

How much power can you make a T5 handle and still be plenty safe?

Is it cheaper to build up my T5 or is it only a few cents more to get a different trans all together?

I'll want left over money for a S/C, that'll be on my stock 302ci long block still, so low boost.

like I said earlier, I would expect a low boost stock headed motor to put out about 325 RWHP max at low boost.

To be Honest, if you are gonna rock street tires, I'd run a stock tranny and see how it comes out.

Really the G-force T5 and TKO trannies are about the same price and handle about the same torques. I am leaning more toward the G-force, cause I've heard less complaints about how they run through the gears.

I think the name of the game is all about money. If you got the dough to buy a new built tranny than do it. If you don't, I'd seriously consider trying the factory trans untill you start making 400+ HP.

I took out two t5's with spirited driving with a h/c/i package. Don't spend money needlessly though. Break your stock trans first. A rebuild or conversion wont cost more later.

Some people get a lifetime out of a t-5 on a modded car. Others break 2 a year and then buy a good tranny. It's all about how you drive it. I know a guy that drives the piss out of his t-5 car. 3 years and 2 rebuilt t-5's later he's got a g-force t-5 and now he doesn't even think twice about bangin 3rd.
The guy in ?? is not hard on the tranny but it took out 3rd both times. Car was completely in gear and boom no more 3rd. The stock t-5 is a weak link on these cars.
Just don't waste money. Run the stock one for a while why you save up the dough. Just remember g-force wants a good core.
                      Progress. Should be fun.

$1,400 for a g-force t5 or a t56, i was hoping to do it cheaper than that. can't a local trans shop build up a t5? maybe not as badass as a g-force but more than just a stock rebuild?

Did you call Lakes Transmission and tell them what you looking to do?

maybe track down a used t5z or whatever the ford racing t5 is. aren't they supposed to handle a bit more power??

if it was me i'd break the t5 then have it built with the Gforce stuff.

Nobody can do it cheaper. If they could build a T5 to hadle 600 torques for $500 then everybody on here would have one.

Good (new) parts cost $$$. With the G-force kit the only think you are using is the case. all new shafts and gears and syncros etc...

I think $1400 is a good deal. That is for parts only as well. gonna be another $200ish to have it built. Also you will need a 26 spline clutch disk.
