    Fox Body Weight Removal Thread

Like the title says, post what you have pulled out of your fox to lower the weight. It would also be nice if you had weighed the part when you pulled them out of the car.

So far on my '91 GT:

Stock front seats: 50lbs a piece (100lbs total)
    Rear Seat: 10lbs maybe
    90% of sound deadener: 5lbs
A/C: 30lbs (heater box and behind dash controls are still in place)
    Smog pump: 7lbs
    Rear end dog bone: 8lbs
Stock Hood: 50lbs give or take a few
Spare tire/jack: 40lbs (only taken out for track use when I remember lol)
ET streets/skinny's -40lbs compared to my street welds
Aluminum Heads: -50lbs over iron e7's
    Harwood 3inch cowl hood: 20lbs
    2 row aluminum radiator: -20lbs
Rear seat assembly: 40lbs (not counting the seat belts)
    Total calculated weight loss: 340lbs

    Weight I have added:

    MM subframes: 20lbs
    Cage: 90lbs
    CR1's: 24lbs a piece (48lbs w/o brackets)
    Nitrous bottle: 24.5lbs when full

    Total w/added: 197.5lbs

Needless to say I need to pull more weight out before I go with a k-member. Ideas?

How radical do you want to get?

Look for 100 places to lose 1lb, instead of 1 place to lose 100lbs

There are things out there such as aluminum rear bumpers (from four eyed turbo GTs) and people making aluminum front bumper supports. If you take your fender liners off and look up you will see tons of useless crap. Cruise control (if equipped) washer fluid bucket, horn. Just depends on what you would like the car to have when you're done.

I think you have most everything that I would take out of a street car. Much more and it gets hot and loud. Trust me. Tubular K member and arms will drop a lot of weight. Move your battery back to the trunk if you havent yet (I cant remember) that will help with weight transfer. Do you have an aluminum radiator? (not a huge weight savings dollar for dollar)

I don't want to get to radical. I still want the car to be safe on the road. I am looking to try and get the weight down to around 3100 with me in it. That would put the car at 2900 without me. I talked to a few guys on the corral and they still use the stock hood, k-member and full interior.

How much does a manual rack save?

rear seat weighs much more than 8lbs in a hatch. maybe you're just talking the bench part?
also, you added a fiberglass hood, not subtracted one, cheater.
the seat brackets are pretty heavy.

and, there should be alot more weight in the sound deadener.

i've removed a ton of weight.

when i put the "-" in there that meant that was subtracting from the stock item.

which seat brackets are you talking about? the rears?

I still have them laying around so i could weigh them and find out how much they weigh. I haven't taken out the lower rear brackets yet. The seats just feel really light.

What have you pulled out greg?

I was thinking the same thing. That tar crap weighed quite a bit. There is a heavy mat up against the firewall, too.

Did you pull of the interior panels and get the sound deadener out from behind them?

                          With a lexan window!

How about a sunroof? Glass is heavy.

No I haven't taken that off yet. I was thinking about that when the cage was going in, but never got a chance to pull it. I can still pull them all off and get the deadener out. I haven't pulled the firewall pad as you have to pull the dash to get that out if i remember right. The deadener is gone from pretty much the whole car except where the interior panels cover up.

Nah, just grab the pad and pull. It'll come out in about three pieces. There's a thick pads glued to your carpet, too.
