    Diablo Tuner Questions

I am modding my 03 GT 5 spd. I have BBK long tube headers, BBK o/r h pipe, flowmaster american thunder catback, K&N filter with trimmed silencer, and have 3.90's going in this coming week.

I purchased a Brother's speed calibrator for the gear swap and am wondering about the Diablo tuner. I am debating buying a Diablo sport chip for my car and talked to a rep at a Diablo dealer who said the tuner is the way to go. Eventually, i will be adding a power adder of some sort and will need a custom chip. The guy told me to expect 12-15 rwhp from the tuner. Is he full of shit, is this thing worth 280.00.

Do I keep the speed cal and say screw it, return the speed cal and buy the tuner, or just wait and do it when i get a supercharger or nitrous.

Anyone have one of these? I am sure you guys have the chip but how about the tuner?

Best to get all your mods done and then get a custom chip.

Tuners work too, but are spendy and can only use most on one vehicle.

what do you think would be a good next mod. been thinking about heads p&p, cams, intake. I know i will eventually do these. what else would you say would be a decent mod.

Don't know that there are many options for modular heads/cams out right now. I guess I'd rather spend the $ on a power adder.

I'm sure Casey has advice here, as he has a blown '99 GT, he's running low 12's.

Possibly consider MUCH cheaper bolt ons rather than heads/cams/intakes:
        Underdrive Pullies (5rwhp?)
        Timing adjuster (10rwhp?)
        MAF/TB (5-10rwhp?)
        Good tune : (10-15rwhp?)

What are you building your car for? Track usage? Street?
        Subframe connectors,
        Springs,
        Control arms
        aluminum driveshaft
Good set of tires. (Drag Radials, etc.)
        K member
        etc. etc. etc.

I am building it for the 1/4 but am also using it as a summer daily driver. I know I will either spray it or forced induction at some point but dont want to stop there. I know I will also have to redo the bottom end to keep up as well. I wont be adding a blower for probably another year. I will most likely be getting a set of Nitto's this summer. I will eventually get a set of Weld draglites and some slicks for the track. Just dont have alot of bucks right now. My gt is just a bit anemic and I want to wake it up a bit.

Steeda Tri Ax shifter ($100 used, 150 new)
Steeda Timing adjuster ($100 used, $150 new)
Steeda Underdrive pullies ($100 used, $150 new)
            tires ($300 a set new, ??? used)
            gears ($150 a set, $300 install???)

That's decent for the road. Down the line you can ditch some stuff and get a blower or go Turbo. ($4000)

For cheap stuff, I'd do those 5. Also, all the power in the world won't help one bit if it can't get to the ground. Subframes, control arms, all suspension stuff will help in ride handling.

cool, thanks for the help. I think maybe I will get the tri ax. I keep hearing about that and pro 5.0 but hear more about the tri ax. I have heard the under drive pullies dont do alot for the 4.6. I appreciate your help. was ok with the 5.0's but the 4.6 is a new ball game for me. look forward to this summer on uni.

I have heard the opposite, that pullies do help. I have a set for my '01 Cobra that I still haven't put on, but I will be doing those first thing this summer along with a timing adjuster.

oj?? Like that famous dude? You know, the football player?!

something like that. a nickname i got from someone. no similarities with orenthal. You will have to let me know. I had them on my 93 lx and it seemed to put a hurtin on my alternator. the new car has the mach 1000 and i dont know if it draws any harder on the elec sys and i just dont want to find out at the expense of a battery or alt.

                    Just keep drivin' it.

You'll have to come up to a Saturday night party down at Uni sometime!
