The age old header questions: Price/quality

Quite the price difference in headers, here is where I was looking:

Shop Ford Mustang Headers. Hand-picked by experts! Pay later or over time with Affirm. *Free Shipping on Orders Over $119*

You'll notice the MAC LTs sell for $340, BBK for $520, and SLP for $742.

The only confusing part is I always hear people complaining and loving all the headers. Some people seem to love BBK, some hate it...same for MAC. Can anyone make a case for one over another? Specifically, are the BBKs $180s better than MAC?

Listen to people with the same car as yours. I am sure most people hate headers due to fitment issues.

I donno if 2v's are the same as 4v's but you may wanna check into this before you purchase... with bbk and mac (on a 4v at least) you can't remove the tranny/replace the clutch without loosening at least one header first. I know for sure some of the headers have this issue on the 2v motors, not sure which though, i'd guess it's still mac and bbk though.

painted hookers are cheap (480ish when i bought mine) and pretty nice. steer clear of mac's on 4v's, they do ok on 2v motors though.

For the price of the SLPs, you can get kooks, which are the alpha and omega of headers for modulars from what i hear.

I have Mac's. They fit great, and I have been very happy with them. If money was no option, then I would buy Kook's.

If you plan on keeping the car, and furthering the mod list down the line, why do headers twice.

Get the Kooks, you will most likely never find a nicer built/fitting header.

They make good shit, and I've been VERY impresed on how they fit Mustangs, and even more so on Mark VIII's/Tbirds/Cougars. Nobody else makes a good header to fit those cars except Kooks....

I have hookers on my car, mainly due to the price difference between them and the kooks... only thing i didn't like about them is: the driver side O2 bung is on the wrong side, the O2 extension has to rest on the header... which i'm nervous about melting issues. the second thing is, stock, they are using slip-on connections between the header and x pipe, which, if taken off and put back on a few times more than normal, will cause leakage eventually. i've opted to weld in some 3 bolt flanges, and that seem to eat away another half inch of ground clearance...

but other than that, my t56 (and even when i had the 3650), comes out in about 10 minutes...

Perhaps some of the difference in the likes/dislikes is due to application. I love my BBK longtubes, and they were only 200 bucks. There was a greater difference in power from stock than I thought as well. But, then again, I have a 302 SN95. I'd look for people who have 2004 mustang GT's with longtubes and ask them what they liked/disliked about the headers they have.

Wow 900 bucks for 30 hp? That sounds like a shitty deal.

designing longtube headers for a motor that's 4" wider than a 460 big block and has an auto attached to it, while clearing modern suspension, is tough.

if you think that's a lot, should see a cam swap on a 4v tho
