    Plugs? Boot? Rust?

OK, opinion time. I went to the track last weekend, felt something wrong with the car. Stuttering, I suspected a broken ground strap. we pulled the plugs last night and here's what we found:

Broken #2 plug (2nd one back from front on pass side)

At least I found why my car wasn't running right at the track..

    BUT:
Any suggestions as to what the orange CRAP could be?

Orange #4 (next to firewall on passenger side)

Do you spray the engine down to clean it?

WERD. Looks like water got under the plug boot and rusted.
It is a damn poor mind indeed which can't think of at least two ways to spell any word.

Sometimes, but there is a coil cover over these most of the time. I'm getting a few people that say rust from water seeping in. I'm starting to think that may be the case.

Thats what its from. Water can still get down in there. And then it will just sit in those holes until you start getting a miss.

usually when the coils do get wet down there they short out but the plug looks like it went lean and burned the tip off

Dan, isn't that plug from #3 and the boot from #4?

Looks like rust. When we changed plugs on Grifters Mark we found the holes either empty and normal, full of oil, or full of rust. His rusty ones look alot like yours.

                    Hey Dan

Water migrates down the wires for the coils, and fills the back plug wells and then it rusts.

To fix, you need to dry out the coils and silicone the wiring where it enters the valve cover.

For the num 2 cly you most likely leaned out the clynder or predetonated.

You better flow test the injectors before you head to the track.

If you want that done just let me know.

Get rid of the irridiums. Use a standard plug at the track if possible.

Common problem with irriduim plugs, SRT community has learned platinum and irridium plugs do that with high output coils, i know on SVT performance there are quite a few threads telling people to run autolite standard copper plugs because of this happening.

SO what plugs to go with then? I had BRISK plugs in my old '04 Cobra.

Anyone sell anything locally I could go pick up? I have some dielectric grease I could use and some silicone to seal the coil cover.

I'm sure the ground strap is LONG gone by now..

NGK TR6's (stock# 4177) Thats is one step colder than an NA 4V and stock on an '04 Cobra. Everything I've read indicates that the 4V and the 2V use the same plugs basically. I know red rooster in Crystal had them in stock when I bought mine. Here is a good attachment that describes modular spark plugs

I am well modified and this is an '03 Cobra... I was thinking I should go 2 steps colder than stock..
