    Upper intake removal, reusable gasket?

I have an oil leak on my '89 5.0 that is either coming from the back of the lower intake, or the rear of the driver side valve cover gasket. The engine is completely stock. I have ruled out rear main seal since the oil is clearly originating toward the top half of the engine and running down everything, creating quite a mess.

I'm gonna pull the upper intake so I can have a better look at what's going on, do I need a new gasket for between the upper/lower intake, or can I just slap it back on when I'm done? I know a gasket is like maybe $5, but I'm cheap and hate throwing money into stock shit if I don't have to.

The obvious answer is to just buy a different intake but I'm leaving it all stock until I can do the entire engine at one time.

    Thanks.

You're better off replacing it. Chances are it will be saturated or tear anyway so if youdon't have one on hand, you'll need it anyway. Buy it and be done with it.

One simple check that you can do before you pull the upper is to make sure that the pcv valve and it's grommet is seated properly in the lower intake.

Mine came appart with the gasket seeming like it was like a cometic gasket. I still have it but it will cost you more than $5 in gas to get it

Most likely it's the intake leaking. Most high mileage 5.0's leak from there. Do yourself a favor. When you replace the gasket, don't use the cork ends they give you. Put a nice bead of silicone on their and make sure to get the corners and you won't have to worry about the cork getting pushed out again. JMO. Nick

I reused the upper intake gasket when I had the upper intake off of my truck's '89 5.0 with no problems. Lower intake leaks a bit also but I had the intake off so i could jack up the motor further to do the pan gasket... Was too lazy n cheap to make another run to the parts store
