what ya running for torque.?
Junkyards nowadays are getting gold for 9" rear ends.
Now that I start to think after baking in the sun. don't lots of explorers have 8.8. Yes they do with the 7/8" 31 spline axles and TLocs to boot. find one of those. Either will be fine, but with the explorer rear option No need for cutting of axles. Just take entire rear end out of explorer and put it in Ranger. Case closed. If I remember right the ranger shocks mount to the tube So You'll have to do some cutting and welding for the shocks to bolt up.

lmfao @ blowing lots of rears with 4.0 crate. did he happen to set up the rear ends himself?
The 7/8" 31 spline 8.8 handle goobs of torque. There are hundreds of peeps on this board with way more torque than any 4.0 crate motor. and lots even run stock 3/4" axles. Bottom Line In My opinion a 9" behind a crate 4.0 V6 is total overkill.
