Anyone running methanol injection in their cars, especially an 03-04 Cobra. Just wondering what you thought about it!
Methanol Injection

No Cobra here....but I have been running alcohol injection on my GN for about 6 years now. I have had good luck with it -- as in I've been running 20 lbs of boost on 92-93 octane pump gas, have 185,000 miles on my engine, and I haven't driven over my crankshaft -- yet! I'm still on the original head gaskets, even! <as he looks around for some wood to knock on....> I have never been consistent with it at the track, however. Sometimes & get it tuned right, sometimes I go pig-rich. Mine is an original SMC non-progressive type. A more modern, progressive system would be easier to tune. Anything else you want to know? Just ask -- I'd be happy to tell you what I've learned.Originally posted by CobraCrazy83Anyone running methanol injection in their cars, especially an 03-04 Cobra. Done right, impressive gains are possible. In WWII, many turbo and/or blown aircraft engines used water/methanol injection or N2O for 'War Emergency power'. They had excellent results with both techniques.Originally posted by ZippyI don't think many if any, have gotten any great gains from it.
There are guys in the national GN club that are running mid-11s with stock engines @ 25 lbs of boost on 92 octane pump gas by running alky injection & a nice front-mount intercooler.
With 160,000 miles on my little Buick 3.8L V6, I dynoed ~400 @ the wheels with ~485 lbs of torque on an inertia dyno. Torque averaged just over 400 lbs for the whole pull, while HP averaged around 340 or so. That was in overdrive @ 23 lbs of boost on AvGas with a little alcohol on the side. Not too bad for a then 17-year-old stock V-6 with a few minor bolt-ons, running through a 4-speed auto....
In a similar state of tune, I ran a best 1/4-mile of 12.76 @ 106 on a 2.1 sec 60-ft. I had BFG 275-50-15s out back, and still couldn't get enough traction to launch at full boost.....
Engine bolt-ons: Red's 93 chip, 160 degree 'stat, colder plugs, KN filter, 3" intake, LT1 MAF, Translator Plus, stock intercooler w/Kenny Duttweiler neck, TA-49 turbo, adjustable wastegate rod, adjustable f/p regulator, Walbro 340, 3" dp, gutted 3" cat, dual 2 1/2", oversized, stock-appearing crossflow muffler.
Trans mods: Full Art Carr TH200-4R rebuild, 12", 3000 RPM stall conv.
Rear: Eaton posi w/redline clutch pack, 3.42 gears, Moser 30-spline forged axles.Last edited by Fast One; 07-10-2006, 08:53 PM.It's all about the boost....

The trick to running meth and getting good gains from it is having the balls to throw the timing at it and pulling the fuel. I went from 406 to 462 rwhp with the meth, but I did it like the GN guys in that I upped the boost along with throwing the meth to it to make the extra power. The first pull with the meth was 399rwhp, so I was actually DOWN 7 hp, after throwing 2,4, then 6 degrees at it it was up to 462, I would imagine it could have taken another 4-6 degrees, but that's all I wanted to push a stock 4.6 shortblock."I'm getting really tired of the turbo whistle"
