  • Probably a n00b question, but...

When I start up my car (cold, not after it's ran for a while), it seems to have more power and the exhaust is louder. Why is that? I've noticed it with every car I've ever had. How can I keep it that way, because it's kinda fun :-P

car is cold, thus the air going into the motor is colder and more dense and it makes a little more power. Once the motor warms up the intake air temps also get warmer.

well I always thought it was cuz of the air being cold, but I've also heard that cold air intakes weren't that much of a difference. i've seen people cool the air via ice, but i mean is that all that's different is some cold ass air? makes me wonder how much boost that equals out to heh. i can't wait to supercharge this sucka.

think of it this way u know what a car over heats u lose alot of power it is becuase of all the friction but when it is colder there is lest friction

comp controlled cars usually run rich when cold(due to fixed a/f mixture until warm and o2 sensor comes into play). Kind of like the way a carbed car sounds when the choke is on.

rich isnt what makes it run faster or better though

Nope, that's from the engine being cold and therefor not heating up the air fuel intake.

The majority of damage to an engine is usually from people running it hard when the oil and engine is not at operating temperature.

Yea I heard it wasn't a good idea to run hard when it's cold. I've really tried not to hit it too hard till it's warm.

Also, I've noticed that after I put gas in, it has a little extra boost. Does adding gas to the tank kinda put extra pressure on the fuel line for a short period?

I also like the way it sounds when it's cold. Since it runs richer, ya think when I add the charger (with SVT Focus pump and injectors), it'll sound more badass? =D

CAI produce different gains on different engines. You will not see as big a gain on the V6 vs. the GT vs. the Cobra.
