  • Larger rotors

I have an '04 V6 and I'd like to get bigger brakes. I was originally set on spending a GRAND on slotted/drilled stainless rotors and calipers/pads from Baer, but after reading another thread I think it's pointless. I'd still like to get some 13" rotors for all four wheels if I could. Are there any adjusters for the calipers to accomodate for a larger rotor, or do I have to buy better calipers for the front? I know the rear calipers can use an extender (I think).

Just upgrade to Cobra brakes. 13" front, and 11.65" rear. Get Brembo blank rotors from TireRack. Stock calipers will not work for the front as far as I know. Besides, Cobra front calipers are only about $200 anyways.

Are they two or four piston calipers? Are they a direct replacement with my suspension then?

Tousley Ford in WBL sold me 13" rotors, 10th anniversary calipers with pads, and hoses for 340.00. I bought the rear kit which has everything except calipers for 150.00. 13" rear rotor is possible with some sort of caliper relocation bracket, but that itty bitty caliper on a huge rotor seems kinda pointless to me. I doubt you'd even get an improvement by going from 11.65 to a 13 in the rear. But hey, do it, and let me know.

Sweet. Picking up my car from there today actually Had some knocking in the lower end of the engine so they ripped 'er apart and found NOTHING wrong...go figure. I have the extended waranty thank God. They're replacing the oil pump and screen just in case it wasn't feeding oil fast enough. I'm kindof glad it's fine, but at the same time I'm not. I'm glad because as much as I beat that thing up, it'd holding pretty well it seems. But...WTF was that knocking then if it's not the oil pump?! Was doing it with lower-grade fuel and with premium, so I guess it's not timing?

Anyway I'll have to check out the cobra brakes. I saw a Cobra not too long ago and I actually liked the size of those rotors, so I think they'll work out peachy

I noticed you have a 6 banger. I hope you have 17" wheels. If you have the stock 16"s you can make the cobra's fit....with a big fucking hammer. Otherwise, get 17"s before you get the 13's....otherwise, no fitty of the cobra brakes for you

Yeap that's what I thought. That's ok though, I planned on getting 17" wheels soon. I have a buddy that's selling some for $400 but I don't know what they look like yet!

v6's go fast enough that they need more than drums to stop?

                  Snap!

I'll have ya know I'm packin' at LEAST 190hp

Haha, yea it sucks, I know. But I have plans for an intercooled supercharger and a few other things. Ya'd never know you just got your ASS kicked by a 3.9 when I'm done with it! Unless 'course I ran against some lucky bastard with a bored/stroker V8 with 15lbs boost

You sure about that whole 3.9? I thought the 6 poppers were 3.8's and the T-Bird's were a 3.9?

Sorry to rain on your parade, but for the money you will spend upgrading that engine the way you say you want to, wouldn't you be much better off just trading it in for a GT?

late-model 04 V6's were bored to 3.9L. HP was still 190, but some estimate that .1L brought it to 193HP, no big deal though.

And no I can't afford the insurance on a GT. I'd much rather keep my V6 (I'm upside down on my loan already so it wouldn't be smart to trade it in) for insurance and the fact that I got a killer deal on it because it was a close-out at Tousley. $800 under invoice (I used to work there). So I'd rather spend a few G's and make it a badass V6 than dump it for a GT and spend an extra $400/month on payments.

Alright. Well, to each his own I guess. Chances are your stock v6 would give my old '94 v8 a run for it's money anyway.

Instead of dumping money into the motor, dump money into the suspension. You can still have fun with your car even though it is no V8. Germanguy owns at Auto-X with only 100whp and 160tq.
