    Post Track Sadness (Clutch/Tranny?)

Hey guys, I went to the Rock Falls yesterday with a bunch of guys and now I think my car is on the verge of breaking. I've always had a little trouble getting into second gear, mostly at high RPM. Now after yesterday's runs, the shifter feels very muddy and shakey when I take it out of first and get it into second. It's not hard to get into first or the other gears, mosly just coming out of first and going into second.

Also, when I have it out of gear and push it into second, it will go part way in without using the clutch. I can just pull the shifter like I'm putting it into second, but without touching the clutch, and the car will start to roll (like it's almost getting into second without the clutch).

Any thoughts? Does it sound like the clutch is going out? The tranny is busted? Both?
Make it 3 yards Mother F*cker and we'll have ourselves an automobile race.

Yep, syncro. they do wear out. If clutch doesn't slip and disengages to allow shift into all other gears it's probably working fine.

syncronized gears in modern tranny change shaft speed to allow smooth shift into that gear. if you ever drove a vehicle or tractor without syncornized gears it'd probably seem just like your 2nd gear.

My car is living proof that you need no syncro's.. Wait I'm the one that kept missing third. Time to install my 3650!!

At least if it's the synchro, I can keep driving it, right? The clutch going out could leave me stranded. I guess no more frum digs for me!

Yeah just skip second gear and you'll be fine and won't do anymore damage to the tranny. If you keep cramming it into 2nd you could eventually damage the gears.
