Tranny Question

Hey everyone i have a 91 GT with a 306 and a tremec tranny, i just bought the car and when i bought it it made almost a humming noise which was coming from the tranny. The day I picked it up I brought it straight to the transmission shop to have it checked out, they said that this is a common problem with the Tremec TR-3550. They said I need a new 1-2 synchonizer and a new first gear, as they were rubbing and that was what the noise was coming from. Just curious if anyone else has had a problem similar to this or heard anything or what. Thanks for the help

shifts great goes into gears great no grinds or anything like that, also the noise does not change with engine rpm or speed, it is a constant noise.

I have a Tremic TKO and its great. I believe they are very similer trannies.
I'm curious on how the fluid looks!! Also what fluid does he put in it. If its ATF he should be shot! Tremic specifically said it requires Royal Purple tranny fluid or GM Synchromesh. Each work very well.
