    Carb cleaner is your friend

I installed a plenum and different 70mm tb yesterday. HOLY CRAP I think I was down a couple mm's due to crap in my TB and plenum. A little carb cleaner and it looked great again and idles much smoother again too. So whats this sea foam stuff I keep hearing about?
I'm just posting this to remind a few of you to keep your equipment clean, that and I'm bored.

Actually carb cleaner is bad for throttle bodies and the plenum. They have a teflon coating and the car cleaner is not good for it. Make sure to use throttle body cleaner. Its similar, however it will not harm that carb cleaner

I thought only Ford OE TB was coated to reduce buildup. I don't think Accufab or the others are.

It's not teflon, but they are coated. Only the OEM TB's, and IMRC's on cars that have them have it though. Carb cleaner CAN take it off, but not always.

Seriously, what is the deal with the seafoam stuff. I hear referance to pouring it in, but that doesn't seem like sometihng I would want to do or could do to in an modern Fuel Injected intake. I bet my manifold and valves are just as bad as my plenum and TB were. On that note, Why the hell was there so much oily build up just passed the TB valve? Is that from the PCV and can I stop that?

well growing up a redneck i was sippin' off the Seafoam bottle right after the teeet. but i have also done extensive traviling and i can say that the only place you will see Seafoam is here in the Midwest. other parts of the nation will look at you funny, cuz they have never heard of such a brand name before. Advansed Auto in Elk River was not even able to stock it because there corporate buyer has never even heard of such a thing. they ended up stocking (from an outside supplier) it because the people of the Midwest DEMAND THAT SPECIFIC NAME. Seafoam is a catch-all additive that can go everywhere and the old timmers refer to it as "A cars Elixor" because they dump that stuff in every orfice they can find. gas tank, crank case, right down the carb butter fly, (wholy smoke show) hell you name it i have or have been with people that have put it in or on EVERYTHING!!!!

you will not want to put it in your throttle body, i can't even think how you would. it's barely flamable and will stall a motor fast. you would not want it to have it puddle and...well yuk! you would not want it dripping back into your MAF and touching the hot wire. the benifit does in NO WAY out weigh the risk factor! it's not a dam elixor!

the person who said "run some Seafoam" was stuck in the early '80's and thinks everything runs off a damn carb still. with a carb you can dump that stuff in and have another person hold their foot to the floor. it's a quick easy to clean your carb. what they guy I HOPE was implying was to put half of the bottle in your 1/2 empty gas tank and the other half down your oil fill neck. run your car for a couple of days or about 80-150 miles and then immeadetly change your oil.

it's just a cleaning additive agent in a liquid form (not under pressure). because it is liquid you would not be able to successfully clean much if any of your intake

2nd question, do a search for "oil in intake" that horse has been beatn' into submission already.

Half a can of seafoam in the gas tank and the other half through a manifold vac source, slowly.
