    Identifying E7 cylinder heads.

I was doing a plug change on my car, and I ran into a little problem. The plugs NGK recommends for an '87GT are UR45's. The plugs I pulled out are Autolite 103's. The 103's have about half an inch longer threading. Now I need to figure out if someone installed the wrong plugs before I got the car, or if the car has had a head change. Although it still has the stock intake and who swaps heads and keeps the stock intake?

well you can pull the valve cover and somewhere under there i believe it says e7te.

shite i can't remember off the top of my head, but you could pm frankenstein and ask him to take a look at my old heads and see what the casting number was.

Thanks for the advice, I was really hoping they had some sort of bar system like the GT40's. However on that note is it possible to get the passenger side valve cover off without pulling the intake?

you might be able to snake it off. you would have to take the intake piping off. getting the center bolt will be the biggest bear thats for sure. on thing you can do is also look at the plugs and see how many threads are covered in soot. if there are a ton, meaning more then 2 then i would imagine the plugs that were in the heads were to long. but don't just go off of that, i would recommend getting the valve covers off and running the casting numbers. an upper/lower intake gasket is cheap from checker.

Well I'm still not sure if they're stock, but they are iron. I just threw a magnet on them and it stuck so they aren't aluminum.

If there is a chain attached to them, and the other end of the chain is attached to a boat, you can be pretty sure they are E7s.

I found a picture, I have the same plug angle as the GT's. Where these two heads say "GTP" and "GT" my heads say "11" or "II".

The casting number on all the E7TE heads I've seen is on the bottom side of the head between the push-rod holes. You can only see the casting number if you pull the intake off and use a mirror to shine on the bottom side..
