    Weird Shake in OD

No this is not a Mustang.. its a damn GM. Anyway its a 3.4L Z34 and when the transmission shifts into OD the car starts to shake. Its alot like the kind of shake where the wheels aren't balanced. But its only in OD... the first 3 gears are fine, but OD = shakes. Anyone have any ideas or ever experienced this before?

Does it keep shaking if you let it shift into OD, then turn OD off to make it shift back?

the ATF is brand new and when I changed it, it was "healthy" ATF. No weird smells or color. Just used ATF.

Yes it is the 3.4L DOHC, shoe horn fit, chev. engine...

I don't know what you are trying to ask
Yes it shakes in over drive
Yes when the transmission down shifts the shaking stops.
It only shakes when accelerating in OD. If I put the Cruise control on, the shaking is almost un-noticable...

it sounds like it is in the acutual motor, like you have a drivability issue. like if it does it when high end torque is applied. i would check motor mounts as well.

Last time I had that problem it was the lock-up in the torque convertor.. I ended up un-plugging the torque convertor harness and put another 80k on the car before I sold it. Lost a little in fuel economy but didn't have to shell out $1500 worth of Torque COnvertor / tranny repairs which is what it was estimated at.
Oh yeah - it was a GM also...

damn I wish I would have known that before I bought the car (winter car). Though I did get a sweet deal on it.

So just leave it in Drive instead of overdrive then... damn GM. Doesn't really matter the Mustang is coming out as soon as its 60 degrees outside.

No - you can use OD - you just can't let the convertor lockup.

Until you figure out how to defeat the convertor lockup without setting a code in the ECM - you'll need to just drive it in Drive. Even then, the convertor will want to go into lockup mode - it just won't shake as bad as it would in OD..

I'd tell you more if I knew more. There's a few people on this board that know trannys pretty well. You might want to post the year/make/model of your car and what transmission it has.

Totally Torque converter! I've had GREAT luck adding some friction modifier, running it for a few dozen miles (50) in traffic, stop and go, then on the highway, followed by TransTune from Seafoam and then changing the fluid. Solved all of my problems with the lockup converter...

or just disconnect the damn lockup harness.

Not always that easy... Depending on the year, the ECU will know it's disconnected and set a code as it goes into open loop/limp mode...
