    17" fox guys in here

Ive been considering going with 17" wheels on my fox but I am concerned with ride quality. I have a fully stock suspension - no subframes yet. Last summer I tried rolling around on 17" cobra Rs and it was a ride from hell compared to the ten holes!

Ideas on how to make this comfortable yet have some great rubber as well?

Ive been thinking of a set of Saleen wheels. If that doesnt work out then it would be 15" Prostars

My car with 18"s rode like a piece of plywood with wheels attached until I put in the Konis. If you have decent suspension that is not worn out it should not be bad at all.

The way I look at it, who cares how it rides, it’s not like it’s a DD. Put some17’s, don’t lower it, and get some nice smooth shocks and struts. Mine rides like shit. You can feel every bump in the road, but then, it’s supposed to. Find out what kind of struts are in say a Lincoln or a Caddy and get some similar to that. Your handling will blow ass, but if you want a cushy ride, that’s the way to go.

I care how rides though! I'm willing to give up some cushion but not like it was with the Rs! My quiet fox was slamming over bumps like a beat up dumptruck!

I dont want to handle like ass either. I'd like at least the stock handling.

        Man, the fox platform

Graydon, so you have just some Koni shocks and struts? Honestly Is it stock like?

I'd rather have Saleens than prostars but I do plan on driving this car alot this summer!

put a good qaulity shock and it will take care of the ride. I have tokiko aluma series shocks on mine and it rides great.

Do you have just the shocks or both shocks and struts?

I love the way 17" Cobra Rs ride, they grip and corner very well compared to the pony rims that I had on before! Oh in the summer it is the DD. I'd say get better shocks & springs if you want a cushier ride.

you can get a set of tokico blue shocks/struts for dirt cheap brand new they will work awesome for what you want, put a good set of springs front/rear too..

some people have been buying the "bullitt" suspension kit it includes shocks/struts/swaybars/springs and its like 400 something for all of it. they use tokico shocks and struts as well.

Springs too? Would dropping it an inch hurt? Thats probably a stupid question. Ive driven a lowered car before and it was terrible!

Good info guys. I think Im going 17"

I'm planning on 17s on my new ride too, thinking the same as what others have said. Shocks make all the difference. I'll probably go with my BBK specifics and Tokico blues. I also have the Illuminas and they're a smooth ride. Nothing good to say about the design though.

What tires and tire pressure were on the R's you tried? It all makes a difference.

Keep in mind I sort of set up the car for autox usage and stuff. So I have the back set pretty firm, the front set pretty soft. I also have Eibach lowering springs. This sort of setup theoretically should make the car ride rougher. However, it got about 1 billion times smoother because the stock suspension was so bad!

Pay attention to the spring rates if you are getting new springs. Eibach or Ford racing progressive rated springs should not hurt ride quality too much, but you might just want to leave the stock springs in if they are not too bad or even broken.

Struts and shocks is where it's going to be at as far as your ride quality.

And subframe connectors won't help ride quality greatly, but you should still get a set of full length ones, simply because they are pretty much required on a fox.

I have 17 cobras and eibach drag springs and lakewood drag struts and shocks, and mine ride quality seems about the same

I've gone from 15's to 16's to 17's with stock springs, shocks and struts and the ride was better with each change. I also have Southside lowers and sub frame connectors and the ride is better than when I first got the car. I'm not sure why your ride was so bad on 17's unless you had some really stiff shocks/struts.
