    Cobra computer?

ok, I've been working on a buddies car. It's a 94 GT with a mild h/c/i combo from ford racing. The previous owner was dead set on keeping the car all ford parts so when he went to upgrade the injectors, instead of putting on an aftermarket MAF he put in a cobra computer and mass air.

So, not knowing this( found out the day after we ordered a Pro-M mass air meter for a 94 GT. Will this work on a cobra computer? I really doubt it, but some people I know argue otherwise saying it makes no difference because either way it sends a signal for 24lbs.

Do we need a stock GT computer? if so which one and where do we get it?

i wanna say the computer won't matter, i know i've seen guys run those shitty ford MAF's before, and i don't believe they had any special, non-stock computer, so for that reason i'd think the computer isn't anything special.
but this is all in theory! i could be totally wrong!

if the computer is different, you could always just get a new one.

But Ford Racing might make that shitty "big bore" maf for GTs too?? I know for a fact that it's a cobra computer. Were they running that or an actual mass air meter off a cobra?

        damn it greg

aren't the "big bore" and the cobra maf's the same thing???

maybe ask 93svt, i know he is selling a pro-m and stuff so he probably had them on his car at one point in time and knows what'll work.

          damn cobras!

            Sigh... stupid MAF...

I think this might be a "plug it in, see if it works" I doubt you'll be able to hurt anything by just trying it. All the electronics will jive with each other (ie no higher than expected voltages, no random shorts, missing pin-outs, etc.)

I'd bet if you ordered with the right size injectors and MAF, that hte Cobra programming is "close enough" to work with it without too much problems.

This is really one of those times in which I wish there was a TCStangs member with a dyno willing to let us run experiments.

It might work it might not, Iv seen people use non-cobra mafs on cobra and its works (so they say) when i tried running that pro-m that was calibrated for a a9l car that had 24lbers my car ran lean on the dyno, the maf transfer tables should be all messed up, what cobra computer is it? I would try it if it has drivabilty issues I would look there first, a custom chip or something could easly fix any issues with it, might not be a bad idea anyways

The computer has the wrong MAF calibration in it as it has the flow curve for that Cobra meter body. You can get around it by getting a meter calibrated for a Cobra, but IMO you'd be much better off just getting a GT computer as the Cobra computer has other undesirable programming.

is the A9L stock on a 94 GT? I don't think it's worth it to try running the cobra if problems could arise, besides it's not my money so I'm gonna say we need the GT computer.

I know the A9L isn't the only computer out there for the 5.0 but is it the best and is it the one Pro-M calibrated the meter for? (for a stock 94 GT)

                  Thanks guys

Keep another set of plugs handy.

When the charger was installed on my car, they went through 3 sets of plugs while trying to get the right MAF / chip combo. (Kept fouling them).

T4MO is the computer code you're looking for. Depending on how much you'll need to spend on a computer it may be benefitial to look for used EEC-tuner's or Tweecer's, that'll take care of everything. The car will run lean with that meter and the Cobra computer (J4JO?).

The big bore MAF's don't have the center bar down the middle, so they flow some more air than the regular 70mm MAF's, I made over 400rwh

This is my buddy's car and he wouldn't have a clue what to do with a tuning program(and I have my own car to work on) so we'll just have to get that T4MO computer I guess.

                              Thanks guys
