    Dished Pistons?

Let's say you're shooting for 8.8:1 compression and with your desired cylinder head require 44cc dished pistons. Is this too much dish? Or are you pretty much allowed as much as you want to achieve your desired C/R? As an example CP makes pistons in 5-45cc dish sizes, that kind of suggests 44cc's is right on the ragged edge of something(reliability?) obviously SBF vs Volvo is apples to oranges, but I was hoping someone might be able to give me a general idea.

WELL THE ARIAS PISTONS I BOUGHT FOR MY SBC ARE -22CC OR 8-1 THERE IS ABOUT 3/4 OF A INCH THATS AT 0 DECK THEN THE REST OF IT IS FLAT ACROSS ABOUT 1/4 INCH LOWER THEN DECK. THE ONLY PROBLEM YOU MIGHT RUN IN TO IS YOUR WRIST PIN BEING TO FAR IN TO THE RINGS FOR A STREET CAR IM SURE IF YOU CALL THEM THEY CAN TELL YOU WHATS SAFE FOR YOU. I KNOW MINE I CAN ONLY RUN A 5.7 INCH ROD CUZ THE RING ARE SO LOW.

This calculator is designed to show the different Compression Ratios for different sized engines.

This should help out a little bit. You'll need to know the bore/stroke and a little bit about hte head gasket (can probably just put in a rough estimate).

Sorry, kinda did a misread on the post...

If you've still got a good crown on the piston, I wouldn't worry about the dish. The real thing to worry about is getting a "Thin spot" on the piston where heat will build up. If you've got a fairly even piston surface and you know that it's not ever going to get "Too thin" across the top of the piston... there's nothing to worry about.

Dished pistons are actually very good for efficiency and performance. You'll not find a diesel that does not have dished slugs in it.
