help: i think my computer took a crap on me

well, latley ive been having some problems. every once in a while my car will be idleing at a light and out of no where it will just die. then it got to the point where sometimes it wont start at all. so i was thinking what it could be and so i decide to pull my chip out. sure enough it starts right up so i put the chip back in and it started so i thaught maybe it wasent the chip. it happened a couple more time and every time i pull the chip out it starts. yesterday it hapened and would not start at all with the chip in so i take it out and it started. i decided to show a friend what it was doing and it did the same thing for him except on the second time we pulled the chip out it starts with the chip out but runs like complete ass. it doesnt rev up and sounds like the timing is 180* off . now i have no idea what it is. before i thaught it was the chip but now itdoent run w/o it either. the only thing i think it could be is the computer.

    now the hard question:

i have my computer out and it is a remanufatured comp. and there is no cali. number or any other numbers at that. so i dont even know what computer is in my car to replace it? does anyone know what computer i need or what one will work?

    i have a 1989 lx 5.0 w/manual tranny

i called ford and they said they cant figure out what one my car had even if i gave them the vin number?

any and all help is appreciated.

    thanks,
    mike

Wouldnt a stock, 89+ Fox processor work? I would think that is what is in there.
    Maybe A9L?

well, i took my computer out today and looked at the circut board. it looks as if when the chip was instaled it pushed some components over and there are a couple burn spots in that area.

that would explain why it wouldnt start with the chip in and would with the chip out. and like bending metal by taking the chip in and out so much it just totaly lost connectoin. and hopfully that will fix my miss too.

so i am in need of a new computer. there is no calobration code on it so i dont know what one it is but here is the numbers i found on it. if any of these look farmiliar to anyone please let me know cuz im totaly cluless as to what they mean.

these two are on the computer side of the wiring harness where it connects:

            *e4lb-14a459-b

            *smb-2c

this one is on the rubber thing inside the connector on the computer side:

            *e4ab-14a297-a

these ones are one the top side of the circut board:

            *84D40346M02

            *01035-3A
            3-15-0

this one is on the bottom:

            *A2218B

does it even matter what computer i run or no?

            thanks again,
            mike

out of my car....I replaced it with an A9L..noticed no difference. you may need a different chip though...not sure on that...when I got my tune, the chip was computer specific.

There are a couple of chip companies that require you to bend a couple things over carefully. Are you sure you can't just re-solder the board?

yeah thats the gay thing i dont know what computer it is so i dont know what the chip i have is for and im not even sure if hitech knows what kind of computer it was?

what is the A9L out of? that seems to be the most common. maybe i should just get one of those and get my chip made for that one.

im not sure. for one ive never soldered a circut board before. and two its pretty burnt in that area. ill see if someone at work has the ability(tool) to do it.

                    thanks

i have a computer out of an 89' auto mustang 5.0L.

                      A9P designation code

shouldn't matter on the stick car.

$30 and it is yours. it came out of a running car so i know it is good.

                      let me know.
                      thanks, steve

I got my A9L from Jason...Agent91 awhile back. I would see if HiTech could burn a chip for the A9M or the A9P like Steve has.

im gonna research if it matters being a stick or an auto and if doesnt then ill take it.

It shouldnt matter...I ran the A9M in my car for awhile when I bought it....car was an auto converted to 5-speed. A9M was the factory processor.

ok. i found out my computer is an A9L so i baught another A9L put that in and it does the same thing. starts w/o chip and doesnt w/chip. when i turn it over with the chip is reaks of gas and i pulled a plug and it was soaked w/gas. i think its the chip. maybe its giving it to much gas on start up.

anyone else know what it could be? i have spark and fp.

                              thanks,
