    code scanners

does anyone know of a decent code scanner that i could pick up. my ce light always comes on when i drive my car. i am almost positive it is my oxygen sensors that are causing the light to trip.

    thanks for your help,

If you have a palm or laptop I would recommend an autotap.

the regular auto part stores have em for like under 30 bucks... and it comes with a little book for the code description and stuff.

so do you think a code reader from checker will work? i went to auto zone and they said the readers are crap. should i go by their advice, or are they just trying to get me to buy the expensive stuff?

If all you want to do is pull codes then a cheap one will work, thats all they do though is read codes. The more expensive units can log stuff, run tests etc.

Does autotap even make a unit for pre OBDII cars?

goto checker and rent there code readers out. THey are nice and tell you exactly whats wrong. Tim, you most likely will have a lean code for your o2's cause you dont have an adjustable regulator. After i put mine on, the lean code went away.

yeah, but pre 92 cars don't have any kind of datastream, so you can't look at any actual values of anything. so you're pretty much reading codes with any scanner.
i don't remember exactly what you can all do with those snapon scanners, i know you can't read sensor values though.... it's been along time since i've actually worked on fords

Yep, I have the ford one with enhanced parameters. Its kind of nice for logging various values to see if your pushing the limits of fuel system etc.
