    Nitrous Questions

    I'm new to nitrous, and I am thinking about purchasing a small shot like a 75 or 100. What are the effective differences between a wet shot and a dry shot, and which would you suggest? And how much do you think my stock block could handle safely - I've heard a 125 shot is the largest for the guys with forged pistons, but I still have my hypertectic pistons? Please do not answer this if you do not know what you are talking about either, I am getting sick of reading through pages of bs for that single seed of wisdom.

    The dry kit is going to use your stock injectors and the FPR to adjust fuel pressure to add more fuel. The wet kit will add fuel itself, rather than relying on using the stock injectors. I would go with a wet kit, as I would be afraid of running lean on the dry kit.

      no, properly tuned you can run 125-150 safely with hypers, I have run 200-250 shots multiple times on my stock 5.0 forged piston shortblock (not the one i have for sale) Dry is still fine in the 125-150 range. Just make sure you get it tuned at that level thats all. If you do get nitrous here are a few things to remember

      -Run it at 3000 RPM's and higher. reason is because at lower rpms the engine just does not process it fast enough and the load can kill your motor.

      -make sure you get a kit with a wide open throttle switch and mount it so it works correctly! reason is that at part throttle again will not process it fast enough and backfiring can occur, something you DONT want.

      Those are the best things i can explain in laymans terms, otherwise have fun I know i did!!!

        nitrous=good.

        1#Wet system all the way if you ask me.

        2#rember runnning rich on nitrous i far better then running lean.

        3#Adjust your plugs your gonna wanna go a step or 2 colder plug

        4# and of course you gonna wana adjust you timing.

        5# dont use platnium plugs, when i ran nitro on my stang i ran a just cheap 99 cent copper plugs 2 ranges colder...and they worked great.


        6# buy a bottle heater if you want your nitrous to preforme well no matter how full the tank is.

        7# purge is nice to have but you can go without one.

        8# a window switch is allways a plus to have..people will call you nuts if you dont have it..................i never used one on ethier of my cars and i did just fine

        9# if you fire it off the line......beware the danger of a massive shot of tourqe to the rear end (wish i till had pics of my fused rear end )

          Cool, thanks you guys, youve cleared up alot of question I had. Cam brings up a good point though, lets say I purchase a 125 wet shot...that translates to how much more torque? At what point would I have to beef up my rear end? Sorry for my noobishness...

              The 8.8 is a pretty strong rear end, and should be able to handle the the 125 pretty well.....What may start to hurt it after awhile is if you spray off the line(1st gear). that puts allot of pressure on you rear. and if your running slicks its gonna put allot more pressure on it..if you fire it out or second gear you should be ok.

              another thing to keep in mind some kits like NX ratye the shots at RWHP.. so 125shot is maybe 135-140 bhp

              im not an 8.8 expert but i think it shoudl handle a 125 shot ok, just dont spray out the whole every chance you get.

              as for tourqe. i can only make a comparison, Sweeth35th(casey) Told me (after i wrecked my rear end) that my V6 mustang was putting more tourqe on the rear end out !!of the whole!! then his S/C GT. and i was only running a 100 shot.

                pretty much all covered, might wanna invest in a fuel pump as well...mine didnt work on a 190 pump, bumped it upto a 255 and it works well. other than that all I have to add is:

                  Another problem with 5.0's (running a wet kit) is the fuel actually puddles in the intake on the turn if you don't run it at a high enough rpm. I always hit it above 3,000 rpm. General rules are: run good gas, retard timing 1-2 deg. for every 50 hp of nitrous, and run colder plugs. I actually ran 2 steps colder, 100 octane gas (only 3 gallons in a 3/4 full tank) and didn't retard the timing at all on a 125 shot. I have not pulled plugs to see what they look like but I didn't hear any detonation and the car runs fine.

                  Don't get greedy, follow the rules, and use common sense. Obviously if the motor is at 220 degrees and you spray 175 shot things may not go as planned. Also make sure your air filter is clean. Have fun! Nick

                    torque is about 2 to 1 at the wheels. It is instantaneous and has a tendency to turn cars sideways. (Been there bought new front end parts) I would start with a wet system and 50 pills and try it. I would sneak up on the power. The intakes on a 4.6 tends to pool fuel in the bottom - per casey-. Start out slow and work your way up.
