looking for more out of my 91.....

i have a 91 lx coupe. Im ready for my next upgrade here pretty soon.

Right now she is pretty much stock. I have put in 373s and the usual mods.

IM thinking about going with a set of twisted wedge heads and a trick flow stage 1 cam. I have a new cobra intake i have sitting on for about 3 years and havent put on the car. I might as well do heads and cam at the same time.

Im thinking about roller rockers as well. IM not too familar on which roller rockers to get with this setup.

Anyone running a simular setup. I still want to have this car to be street...i dont want overkill....at least not yet. I just want a few more horses and i figure this is the next step to that.

The car has about 80k on it right now. I am planning to put in subframe connectors soon. The only problem is it is an AOD and not the 5 speed which stinks.

    Any feedback would be apreciated.

    Thanks guys

damn a 91 with only 80k...thats practically brand new! you can put in a shift kit for the aod that will make it more "fun" .. ive heard good things about the twisted wedge heads, other good heads around the same $$ are teh afr 165s and the dart 170s, for roller rockers you really just have to consider the lift of the cam you are going with, if its getting into the .540 range piston to valve clearance becomes an issue, with the tfs stage 1 with 1.7s you would probably have to check piston to valve clearance but you would probably be ok but 1.6s wouldnt be a problem at all... im sure the efi guys will chime in and let you know what other upgrades to recommend with a bigger head cam combo (ie fuel system). hope that helps some...

I too am about to embark on the h/c/i swap in a couple of weeks. I went with 1.6rr to use with the TFS Stage 1 cam. Sounds like our cars would be pretty similar all said and done! I am going to put on the Edelbrock performer heads with the TFS Stage1 cam and Cobra intake.

I don't know the spec. on the Trick Flow Stage-I cam, but I know those TFS heads really like the high-R's and that your stock-AOD doesn't.

Make sure you match the Cam with the Converter that you're planning on running.

Sounds like a good combo to me. Get some Trick Flow 1.6 rockers and pushrods while you're at it.

On the subject of the AOD... There is a guy on this forum who swapped his out for a T5 and picked up a full second in the 1/4 mile.

Alright, this was a confusing point for me. What does it mean by "modified" mass air? I am probably going to be picking up a new meter at the BBQ if it makes any difference.

probably have to get it programmed for a new fuel curve.... one other thing i was actually just impressed with checking up on the tfs cams is they range from 139.95-159.95 respectively.... that pretty damn cheap ! wow...

They are just saying you will need some tuning with the cam. The TW heads would be fine, better choice with an AOD would be AFR165s (small port, big flow), but they cost more and the TW/TFS1/Cobra combo will make good torque too. I would certainly think about porting at least the lower intake though, its smaller than and won't keep up with the heads.

I have the TW heads on my 90 AOD with the stage 1 also. The car rips now that I have my Lentech in. The torque converter and VB make a world of difference. Keep the auto.

                        Hey paul

how was your stock aod with the setup before the lentech? I would love to get a lentech but i just cant do it right now due to funds. I dont want to tear my stock aod to hell.

When you ran your stock tranny did you also run your stock converter? Thats probably what ill be doing.

I just want more snort out of my car. She aint bad now but she could be oh so much better

I ran the car for a few months on the stock tranny and converter before getting the lentech. I punched it a few too many times in O/D and fried the O/D band out. I still had 1,2 & 3 but they were starting to slip shortly there after.
If you stick with the stock AOD, never ever be a dumbass like me and punch it in O/D or you will buy a new one too.
Performance wise, before I fried it, the performance was so so. At least get a converter and VB for the stocker. And have I mentioned neverrace in O/D?
