if you want to change to carb here is what you need:
Carb:
i would suggest at least a 600 either vac or dp
Carbed intake: you can get a brand new Edelbrock RPM intake for like $120 the air gap one is a little more expensive but is good a for a few more hp
External Fuel Pump: Since efi is high pressure your gonna need a pump that only pushes like 7psi, Holley reds are fairly cheap and good for the swap aeromotive makes a really nice 150 pump that is really sweet if you are gonna do braided lines otherwise stick with a holley red for like $100...
Fuel Line Sight Glass Filter: These are like $5 from any auto parts store just added protection and lets you see how your gas is looking
Fuel Hose: your gonna need a few feet of rubber gas line i cant think of the size off hand but its easy to see
Extra Wire: for the fuel pump power
Fuel Filter: swap your stock filter while your at it!
Throttle Cable: I know this sounds bad but the easiest one to get is an old chevy one
cheap and lines right up
Throttle Cable Bracket/return: Grab one of the spectre cheapies laying right next to the APC crap at your local autoparts store
Air Filter: need a whole new air filter assembly with the filter
it isnt a hard swap and really doesnt take that long, basically you are going to have to pull you upper and lower intake, remove the the throttle cable, pull the injector harness, drop your tank, pull the stock fuel pump but leave the sending unit, replace your stock fuel filter, mount the new pump close to where the stock filter sits in the rear, run rubber fuel hose from tank outlet to pump, wire up pump to relay or switch depending on what you want, install new intake and carb, run rubber fuel hose from steel fuel line to new clear filter, now run hose to carb, connect new shortened throttle cable, put on new air filter assembly. and thats about it...
Total assumed cost with brand new parts: $535
Holley 600 Vac Carb: $250
Edebrock RPM Intake: $120
Fel-Pro Gaskets: $20
Holley Red Fuel Pump: $100
Fuel Filters: $10
Fuel Hose: $10
Throttle Cable: $5
Throttle Cable Bracket/Return: $5
Air Filter Assembly: $15
This is the cheap but very functionable setup but if you wanted to do it bigger i would suggest a fuel cell with braided lines, an aeromotive 150 pump(s), RPM or Victor Jr. intake depending on how built of a motor you are gonna run, Double Pumper carb sized depending on motor...Last edited by kineda; 05-12-2005, 07:12 AM.

If your car is FI I would stay with the FI. If you are having problems with the tune on your car that can be easily changed. Carbs were invented back in the late 1800's and are a simple reactionary device. FI constantly updates and adjusts to weather, throttle position, incoming air temp, coolant temp, etc etc. The Carb just knows there is air being drawn across the jets. You will spend more time and MONEY changing over to a carb then you would by tuning up your FI

oops forgot you would also need for the cheap side an oem equivalent to the 85 distributor (about $60) but i would recommend going with an MSD
if you have extra cash laying around get an MSD box at the same time with an MSD coil...
and yes EFI is more technologically advanced and has many advantages but i personally wouldn't switch back... i like my carb but i really dont agree with the "your gonna spend more money changing to carb than tuning an efi system"... im not a mechanic but from everything i have been around and worked on efi seems to be the biggest cash hog to modify and every little thing you change adds up a hell of a lot more ... shit how much is it to reprogram chips every time? isnt it like $500 a shot??! im not trying to flame the shops at all dont get me wrong i have a lot of respect for someone who has a properly tuned efi system putting down great numbers but i think its is a lot more easily acheived through a carb system... i know from all the time i spent at the track back in florida any car making any kind of good et's at the track was carbed (regardless if it was ford/chevy/etc) but the only efi cars ive seen making decent numbers had to be supercharged or sprayed...

It doesn't cost $500 to reburn a chip for a car. I have seen prices anywhere from 50 to 100 dollars to reburn a custom chip. You don't have to reburn for every little change either. EFI will generally start more reliably, achieve better power levels with the same mods, and get better gas mileage. To each his own though, I am not ripping carbs here, I'm just sayin that I prefer EFI over a carb.LOOK HERE:Originally posted by Pony5.0but hey we have broken up 2 times in the past week and she keeps crawling back to me and she told me she would never crawl back to a guy and i am the only one. she tells me she loves me and everything!
