So I took my car out of Storage and...

Found it is leaking antifreeze AGAIN. It is coming from the same spot as last time when Casey and Ron looked at it a year or two ago. The o-ring above the thermostat is leaking. Does anyone know why this keeps happening, it only happens when the car is in storage. Its not gushing but there was a small pool of coolant in the valley of the motor and I can see that it is wet where the thermostat housing meets the intake. At least it is an easy fix but does anyone have any insite into why this keeps happening when I pull my car out of storage?

I dont know a lot about carsd yet but my 2 assumptions would be there is either a "nick" in the part of the engine where the thermostat mounts or when you are storing it over winter the anti-freeze is freezing and expanding and forcing its way out through the thermostat seal. Next year when you store it take the antifreeze fill cap off so if it starts to expand pressure doesnt build so much, thats what I was told to do when I stored my car

I know that the coolant isn't freezing, I would have more problems than just a bad o-ring. The car is stored in a garage that is insulated and stays heated to around 35-40 degrees all winter long.

well then the only real possibility could be a bad seal in the thermostat housing, if youve changed the seal and it still leaks there has got to be a nick in the metal contact surfaces on either side of the o-ring

What about the possibility that the O-ring is drying out/shrinking when it's in storage? If I'm thinking of the right o-ring, it'd be sitting above the coolant, and could dry out while in storage, allowing it to leak until it expands again. *shrug*

Thats a good possibility. I haven't had a chance to look at it but I have not heard of any other people with 4.6's have this same problem. I drove about 40 miles last weekend and I didn't check to see if is still leaking, I know I could smell antifreeze but that could be just the the puddle in the valley of the motor evaporating.
