    dumbest question on TCstangs EVER

Ok so heres the deal. Having purchased my car when i just got involved in the car scene, i didnt ask about mods (my friends dad whos a used car salesmen handled most of everything). I didnt even know i had a CAI for quite some time (LOL). So now, as im lifting my veil of ignorance, a sudden thought strikes me.. I have pulleys waiting to be installed...but what if i already have underdrive pulleys!?? I have nothing to compare it with...i could have gears or anything and not even know it. Now, in reality, im pretty sure i would know it if i had gears or something major done...but its a strange thought.

lol how do i know if theyre stock?

and in advance for all the people about to flame me: you didnt know everything at one point either.

Crank pulley will be very small and water pump should be a little bigger if they're aftermarket.

Stock or OEM parts should be labeled with the Ford logo.

Do your headlights dim at idle=UD pullies
Does your battery gage on the low side at idle?=UD pullies

The year/mileageof your car determines alot. Since its an 04, It more than likely is all stock with exception of the CAI. How many miles are on the car?

Don't remembe how exactly, but there is a method for finding out your rear gear ratio. I has to do with Jacking up the rear of the car(both tires in the air), spinning the tire one full rotation, and counting the number of times that the drive shaft spins. Not sure if I got that exaclty right, but its a start for you. Someone else will know better than me. Good luck.

If you don't mind pulling the diff cover off, the numbers should be stamped on the ring gear....

Or just look and see that there is no wear on the bolts so they have not been touched since the day it was born.

I made sure to look closely at the whole car after i say the cai and knew you had no idea it was there.

easy way to tell if you had gears installed is to look for the metal tag on one of the rearend bolts, if its there look for the gear ratio on it (stock)...if not there then the gear was either swapped or it was serviced at one time... other way is to do what whislnby said and spin the tire and count the drive shaft turns...

or u could go 70 mph in drive if its an auto... or watever gear is 1 to 1 and when your going 70 look at the rpm's whatever the rpms r at is what your rear gear is...

Jack up the back with the car in neutral. Mark the inside of a rear tire and the driveshaft. Turn the driveshaft by hand, counting the number of revolutions required to make the wheel go around once. I'm not sure but I think your car may have come with 3:27 or 3:55 gears. Thats 3:27 driveshaft rotations to one wheel rotation
