ok i put in a carbed 351w late fall and stated it up and it ran fine, drove it around the block a couple of times it was perfect, theres no mufflers or hood so i didnt drive it very far. Next day i took it around my block again, i noticed it was skipping at lower rpms, shrugged it off. next day it was skipping like hell, then later that day it wouldn't even turn over...figured out theres no spark, i figured the coil fried or somthin so i got a new one and it still doesnt start up, the plugs are fine and fuel is getting in...cant figure out whats wrong...vaccumm leak? fried ignition box? this happen to anyone else? any ideas? thanks

Here is a few ideas maybe timing or timing chain ... did you tighten down your distributer all the way? or maybe its the ignition box... what kinda box is it? or could even be as stupid as a bad ground or a wire that got fried and is grounding out againt the block (ie ignition box wire) i know when i snapped one of my igintion box wires driving one time it fell down into the headers and cooked, car sputtered bad then wouldnt crank at all.. let us know what you find...

distributor is tightend down all the way, cap & rotor are in alright condition (i could get a new cap)....it may be the timing, i havent put a timing light to it yet and i put a new cam in so i might have fucked up w/ the timing chain...the box is a duraspark that i got from upull, could be in bad condition...just cheked the wires and grounds, nothing looks bad there....i could run out to upull this weekend and get another duraspark box, see if its not the box that i fried some how.

Check all wire connections relative to the engine install.
Take a plug out and see if it is dry.
Stick the plug back into the plugwire and ground the metal side of the plug to the engine. Hold it there with something non conductive and have somebody crank the engine over.
You should see spark unless the plug is really wet or fouled by crud. If it is wet and fouled try it again with a dry plug.
If you see spark and the distributer has not been moved since the engine first ran there is a pretty good chance it's a fuel or vacuum problem.
If you didn't tighten the distributer down when you first ran the motor there is a good chance it moved a bit and then a bit more out of time. If that has occured eyeball the rotor to #1 on the cap when the piston is TDC and tighten the clamp. You don't need perfect timing to start
If you have vacuum advance be sure it moves and has not advanced to a full advance position and stuck.
If there is no spark take the cap off and turn the engine by hand to be sure the rotor is turning around. Don't do this with the starter if you have electronic ignition.
Rotor moves and there is no spark? It could be dura box
You have spark, dry plugs but no start? Try spraying a little carb cleaner or starting fluid into the carb while cranking the engine. If it tries to fire or does fire you have a fuel supply problemhardernfaster

i checked if there was any spark and there wasn't... i read that somtimes the pickup coil in the ditributor goes bad and causes skipping so i tried another distributor, still nothing or no spark...just got another duraspark box at upull today and again nothing... and checked all the wiring, and notings wrong...i have no idea what it could be.. im out of ideas
