  • Chips (not potato)

I was thinking about a chip upgrade for the LX. Will I see any improvement in power or will it just make future tunings more effective. Would the money be better spent somewhere else. I got edged out by a Camaro last night and want to make sure it won't happen again. Any thoughts would be cool. See my profile for current bolt-ons.:smoking

If you don't have much for mods just bump the timing up (free) and get an adjustable fuel pressure regulator (cheap) if you race it and can tweak to see results, there isn't much else a chip would do for you.

Thanks guys... I was tossing the TB idea around. The car is my daily driver so I don't want to go too radical. How far should I bump the timing? Will I need to run premium gas?

with your modlist, i wouldn't even think about a chip. SOOO many other things you can get for much better "bang for the buck" factor. and isn't that what we all want?

a few things you could do to get the ball rolling....
          exhaust
get a MAF WAY before you get a TB
          UD pullies
gears (although they are expensive if you need them installed)

What do you have done so far? Bump the timing to 14, it should still run on cheapass gas.

you could get some 3.73's for the rear. I would do that first.

I also happen to have a set of ASP underives for sale $50 for the three pully set, and they look new.

              I run 14* timing on 89 gas

I lent some idiot my timing light last summer and I haven't seen him or the light since. I'll borrow the father-in-law's and set the timing to 14* and see what happens. What should I look for in a MAF? As far as exhaust goes, it had equal length BBK's with some cheapo turbos and stock pipes and cats in between. Is an x-pipe worth the cash, or should I have it custom done with some flowmasters? What has worked the best for you all? Gears are a problem because I need the car daily and I am a little strapped right now. I'd prefer to do the things I can do in the garage now and worry about the gears later.
