Im thinking of getting a new motor for the stang and wanted to hear some opinions from u guys... Theres a crate motor in summit for 3100 or something and it says it makes 345 hp which isn't bad... im sure thats more then my motor makes with 130000 on it... has anyone tried the summit motor or heard anything about it??? And i kno in 5.0 magazine there advertisements for 306's and shit... Or should i rebuild the motor i have... i was thinking crate motor cause it seems like the easiest way to go... i want a motor that won't kill the bank and is reliable... i want a car with a set of balls but is good as a daily driver...

I would suggest having your motor built locally rather than buying a crate engine from some company unless you are close to them. Having it done locally will make it alot easier to deal with if there are any problems that may arise. The local builder route is cool also because you can deal one on one with the builder rather than over the phone and dealing with shipping.
You could just have a local guy go through your shortblock and then throw some aluminum heads, a new cam, and intake on it and you'll have your 345hp motor right there.Nitrous Oxide.....Cocaine for cars.
My car is now an addict, thanks!

The ford dealer I work at has a motorsport crate motor for sale. It is a 347ci and 450 hp. It is on ford motorsports web sight. It is all brand new not remanufactured. It is set up for a fox mustang but has a carb intake so you would need a intake and good headers and then a tune. I could also install it for you if you want. I think they want 6,400. The machine shop there also has a 347 with afr heads all rebuilt and balanced with about the same accessories and intake. They both have motorsport valve covers and sutch. I think they want 5,800 for that motor.

Those Ford crate motors are great......for Ford..... You can get a helluva lot more than that for $3100, and that motor has assembly line machining done to it, no extra balancing or anything like you can do if you have it built locally. You can also build a 347 for way, way less than $5800-6400....damn you ought to have an A4 block for that much....Dan Simons

Or you could have a local engine builder buid you a 428 Dart block for about $5300Originally posted by PaulYou can get a 331 Dart short block from Bennett for about $5800.
I'd recommend just buying a complete rotating assembly that meets your needs (331, 347) from www.adperformance.com, bring it to a local builder have them buid it and then throw a set of good heads and an intake on it and call it good. You'll be suprised how much cheaper it would cost and how much of a better deal it would be.

You really know your stough, my cost on a A4 block is $3,400 that is a bare block and no machining done yet. I have a friend who works at the machine shop and sayd they need on a average about 900 to 1200 bucks worth of machine work to get them up to par. You still need a crank rods pistions cam and all hardware to build it. The motorsports 347 is a sportsman block not a stock roller. They are selling it for cost to get rid of it. Sit down and add up what it really takes to build one with good internals and it is in the ball park, not a seal by any means. You can build a cheep stroker but that is what you have a cheep stroker!

If you read the post you will see that I work at a motorsports dealer and that is my cost I did not buy one. I also didnt say that it is any better or not than a dart block. I know you have alot of old shit laying around Ive seen some of your cars.
Novi 2k GT how mutch in machine work did you spend on your dart block to get it ready for assembly.

You must mean the pristine low-mile '93 or '97 Cobras that I've had? Maybe the '93 LX that was nice and fast enough to be a feature car in two mags? The '99 thats been in 3 articles? I'm confused....Originally posted by I TriedI know you have alot of old shit laying around Ive seen some of your cars.
