So I brought it in for diagnostics. My #7 missfire is a comfirmed bad compression/valve issue on the driver side head. They quoted me $4500 to remove rebuild and reinstall the head. I have never messed with these DOHC engines. Anybody know if this is something that could be done over a weekend on my own? I know I would have to take it to a machine shop to have the head work done.

Used motor is certainly going to require less labor and $ to get it back on the road but the thing about a used motor is that you don't know what's wrong with it. This is an issue that affected a lot of 4v motors so how do you know if the used motor has a good head?
If you plan to keep this truck afterward I'd remove the motor, replace the head, install known good motor and sell head for scrap. No way in hell I'd go through all that trouble to R&R the motor on a gamble the used motor is any good or worth another few years of use. If the used motor fired up and seemed to run well I'd sell it ASAP
