Intake Questions

I've got a Lincoln car intake off an 86' on my 351W and I noticed the intake diameter is really small. I've got an Explorer TB that I would like to use, but it would be worthless on such a small intake. The opening is roughly two inches wide, are the Mustang intakes any better? Could I bore out the factory opening with a carbide burr enough to make a difference? It looks like the depth is ~3" deep as well, looks like a lot of work...

Motor is a 351W with an adapter plate to run a car intake on the 351W so the intakes will clear the hood. I'll eventually be on the lookout for a GT40 setup, but for now this is the setup...

I think you answered your own question. GT40. Go get one off an explorer at a yard. They aren't that expensive.

They wont fit due to the offset port spacing, I'm wondering if all the Mustang intakes have the small 2" opening... ? I thought the 86' 302 was basically junk with the flat tops and tiny car intake on it.

The Linc and Merc are 50mm TB unlike the 60mm on the Mustang. The upper intake doesnt have enough material to bore it out for the 60mm TB. Get upper intake off Mustang. You wont be able to run the GT40 intake on the 351 due to lower intake not compatible (runners are round and offset) unless you find one off lightning for a small $$$

The mustang intake is a lot bigger. I have one laying around if you want to look at it. The explorer gt40 is the same price at upull.

The runners are the same size, just main opening is larger for TB

GT40 intakes are easy to find. There's one laying in my dad's garage with all the bolts/hardware/rails etc stuck to it. I'm sure someone here is using one as a door stop.

I can't use the GT40 unless I run it with a 351W GT40 lower, which won't happen for some time. Thanks for confirming my suspicion on the intake opening size, I'll have to hunt one down now.
