anti theft problem

98 cavalier.

so to solve my heat problem i took out the dash board, steering wheel, air bags. to get at the heater core and all that fun shit.

Now to test to see if my vacume doors are opening and closing like they should with the dash off, i went to try to start the car, and i get anti theft! so i plugged everything back in and still the car starts and then shuts off. Any ideas? not sure what the hell i should do?

Check all your grounds. You might have to do a relearn if you removed the cluster.

grounds are fine, relearn? like reset the computer system? how?

I replaced the ignition on my '96 Chevy Cavalier and the theft light came on. When this happens, the computer cuts the fuel to the engine and prevents the car from running. All you have to do in order to reset the computer is:
leave the battery connected, turn the key forward (don't start the car) and let the theft light blink. When it stops blinking (after about 30 minutes) it should be solid. Then, turn the key forward (don't start the car) until the dash light turn on and then turn the key back - do this three times and the computer will reset. Hope this helps!
