    Jetta speakers

I just got a 2000 VW Jetta with an Panasonic radio. Radio works, turns on, gets stations, plays CDs, but I get no sound from the speakers. To my knowledge the Jetta does not have an amp or anything inbetween the radio and the speakers. There are speakers in the doors. I am baffled
    Aside from fire
    does anyone have any ideas?

I have a 99 passat im assuming they use the same harness did you buy the connector or are u just going to cut the wires. I used the connector and had no problems took about 30min to do it. Either way it should not be all that hard unless u have a upgraded system in ur car like the monsoon is what i think the upgraded system is for these cars.

I bought everything as is. The previous owner put in an aftermarket deck and retained the original harnesses. I can splice into the speaker wires coming directly out of the deck and hook it up to a speaker and get sound. Somewhere between the deck and the speakers the signal is no getting through

Might be worth taking a meter and checking each of the wires to ground to be sure the wires aren't grounding to the chassis. Then check for continuity through each of the wires.

Well if your getting the deck to turn on you should just need to hook up the speaker wires. I feel like i remember on my buddys passat that their was a wire other then the amp turn on to get the speakers to work not sure tho every car is different and ive installed about 8 other decks since then . You should be able to tell for sure what wires are the speaker, then find ground, const power, and key power. After that do you have any color wires left over?

go look in your trunk and tell me if you have an amp in there. Looks like its on the passenger side with 2 connectors. I have these random 2 connectors just sitting there and I am betting someone jacked the factory amp.

Ya i dont have factory amp in my passat or wires hanging i did look in my car for the wires tho and see none. That is a good possibility that you had a monsoon and someone took the factory amp out of the car if u have the wire hanging. If they did you would either need a new amp or rewire all the speakers. I hate cars with factory systems changing anything but the deck is a pain in the ass. Try hooking up a speaker directly to the deck that should answer the question of if it had a factory system. If you did have a factory system then you would also have to hook up the amp turn on to get the speakers to work once you got a new amp.

Is it under the rear deck? If so we have a good used amp at work.
