Car diesel's a littlle when hot.

I have only noticed it once but after a cruise when the car is well up to temp and I go to shut it off it diesels a little bit.

Not bad but I don't want it to do it at all, I know its nothing new but whats the cause of it?

If it runs on, it's getting fuel somehow. Carburated = you have carbon hotspots. EFI = you likely have leaking injectors

Fuel and air. Usually the throttle is cracked as well. On carbed motors with lots of cam, the throttle is cracked so it will idle, so it happens on fresh motors with no carbon.

Simple fix? Use the drivetrain to stop it. On an automatic, usually the resistance of the converter is enough. On a stick, just engage the clutch a little with the brakes on.

I suppose I could just kill it when im still in reverse, then just put it in park after its off.

I thought it had something to do with octane/timing in some situations. Not sure on your compression though.

                It's a pump gas 438ci with 10.5 to 1.

On my small block, when it gets hot, I'll diesel sometimes too. Like stated above, I can just shut it off while in drive and it won't do it. I'd like it to stop though.

Where are you buying your gas and what is your timing at? Non ox is a good idea in that motor if you can find it. Did you dyno with strait pump gas?

All I know is it was ran on the dyno with pump gas, I put 93 from bp in it the first time and the second time I put non oxy from Bills.

It has only done it with the non oxy from bills, the timing is set right at where it was on the dyno. I'll time it tomorrow and see exactly what its at.

The very, very high hp cars are getting more power with oxygenated fuel. Cool story. My uncle builds very hi hp circle track engines and will net an extra 18 hp using the oxy vs. non. I am talking about 830hp natural aspirated 350's.
I have a dieseling problem this year too. Last year the engine was around 9.0:1, this years engine is at 11.0:1. It has dieseled every time hot. I initially thought timing, but changing has never helped. I ruled it to be the carb. I had turn up curb idle on the bitch. The only thing that changed from last years engine was the block and raised compression. All other parts were perfect. Something I live with.
