    Need to borrow: roller rockers

    Ok, long story short is i believe the roller rockers i have are wrong for my car. The ends of the valves show signs of the roller tips rolling off the valves and from engnerdan's point of view he believes that they are not the right rockers. Ive made sure that my pushrods are the right length also.

    So before i go spend another $300 some dollars on rockers i want to test some to make sure its not something with the heads thats the issue. So if anyone has a couple 7/16ths size roller rockers that we could test with that would be awesome. Any brand will do, just need a couple to test on a cylinder.

    And if it does appear that my current rockers are bad then you might have a buyer also for the rockers

    Thanks

    Sorry, it sounds like you do not have the correct push rods in it. How did you pick the length you have?
    Don't ask, it's a midlife crises thing.

        Well technically they are not the specific length that the heads instructions said to get. But on the corral people have been running the 6.700 in their cars which is what i have. the instructions call for a 6.750 length. Now wouldnt this make the issue worse by pushing them up even move and then rolling off the ends of the valves?

        I used a pushrod length checker to figure out the 6.700's i have now.

          If you used the length checker, how did the valve train geometry look when you were checking it?

          Factors that affect the push rod length:

          Cam base circle grind
          Block decked?
          Heads?
          Head resurfaced?
          Lifters?
          Roller rockers?

            When i checked the rollers with the tool the wear patch was in the center of the valve. But who knows maybe i did something wrong? i had budderigs help check also and he thought they were ok also.

            Cam = f303
            block decked = no
            heads = trick flow twisted wedge 190cc fast-as-cast
            resurfaced = no, put on right out of the box
            lifters = stock
            rockers = crane 1.7's

              If you have the length checker, I would be happy to go through it again with you, Kyle.

              I disagree.

                It appears that i might have too. Sucks since from the looks of my valve im sure ill need new ones. They might be able to be saved but i doubt it.

                      shouldn't you be able to run 1.7s no matter what? Sounds like you just need to get the right pushrods. Also possibility of valve float?

                        It clearly looks like the rollers were coming off the end of the valves. I dont know what valve float would do or sound like but the car ran 11.4 last year with the current setup?

                        Obviously something is wrong and i didnt do my homework right when i put the new heads on last year and now im paying for it. Whether this caused the head gasket to blow is another question. But maybe it made things worse, like the straw that broke the camels back.

                        I just need to get the heads back and installed and have a better look at whats going on. I thought it was odd also to think the rockers were wrong, but when you just sit them on the studs they just dont look right. No pictures yet but maybe sometime this week or weekend.

                        Maybe someone should change the thread title to: valve train geometry fail.

                          Is it possible to shim the rockers to gain correct geometry?
                          god damned tinypic.
