    Autobody rust questions?

I'm thinking of repainting my truck.

I've got about 5-6 bubbles on the left rear box side and the same on the front fender of my Silverado. They are about the size of match heads. They just started appearing about 3 months ago. MInd you, these are just bubbles in the paint so far. Can these just be sanded down to bare metal, prepped, and painted again without them coming back in a year? They are not holes.

The truck is a 2000, with no rust other than that. I'd like the paint job to last at least a few years.

Can anybody recommend someone or place that will do this inexpensively. I'm not looking for any show quality work.

Something else to consider, almost every bodyman/painter I've known is a scam artist, coke or meth head. So only recommend someone who is reliable.

Mike I'd like to bring it to you as I've heard nothing but good things about Bighley Autobody. Unforetunately, with a big shop like yours you have higher overhead, which results in those costs passed on to the customer. If this was an insurance job then I'd be bringing it to you. Since I'm paying for this completely out of my pocket I'm looking for a cheaper alternative, like someone who does this on the side.

the only way to get rid of the rust is to replace the metal. it will come back otherwise

Rust never sleeps - the reason many call it "cancer". There is no such thing as little bubbles that don't have rot beneath them. These form from the underside and all that is left between seeing through them is paint.

Ok, I'll agree it can be on the surface if it was scratched or it's near something that attaches to the metal. Otherwise it's typically from underneath and more involved.
