Starter Probs

Tonight my started decided to be retarded. I start the car and the starter keeps trying to start the car after the engine has already been started.

Also, when I turned the key off the starter kept turning.

It is a starter from a '92 F-150.

The only way I could get it to stop from trying to start the car was by tapping it with my spare tire lug wrench. (Thanks brandon and paul for the idea)

Now, what could cause the starter to run-on like it did? Bad solenoid? Bad starter solenoid on the fenderall?

I have oodles of starters if you want one. I can even deliver to Porky's.

Can be the starter solenoid or the relay. Since tapping the starter stopped it, I would guess it's the solenoid. I replace the relay anytime I replace a solenoid or a starter due to a run-on situation such as yours, just as a precaution. Relays are cheap.

Check and make sure the wires on the starter aren't touching. Also check around starter solenoid and make sure that no wires are touching that shouldn't be.

From what I could see the starter wires are not touching anywhere. Today the car started fine. It is an used starter so I guess I had it coming. I think I am going to order up a new mini starter and pick up a new solenoid as well.

I can't remember I will have to check it out. I think it might have only been a 40 day warrenty.

Timmah I got a rebuilt Motorsports starter (I think its the same one you got) for $100 never been used since I had generator specialties rebuild it.
