    3.8L GM coolant leak

Big shocker, right? No, but Last winter We did uper & lower intake gaskets upper intake plenum, those stupid plastic L-Shaped tubes and other stuff.. Because it was burning coolant. (2002 Monte Carlo 3.8L)

Now, fast forward to this month. I noticed a good portion of coolant on my driveway, and started inspecting and the only place I can see coolant is underneath the crank pulley infront of the Oil pan, where there is a flat spot & there is coolant sitting there. The water pump seems to be completly dry, with no apparent leaks or signs of coolant. the hoses aren't leaking. and the serp belt and front accessories are all dry. The freeze plugs also are good, no cracks/leaks to speak of. It's really starting to bother me. Am I overlooking something simple? I know coolant issues are common with these but I can't find it for the life of me. the only thing I can think of is it being the waterpump gasket. I wish I could just kill it with fire & profit, but that's not in the cards.

I had a coolant leak on my 2002 3.8 from the front cover to block gasket.
When we got to my place, I already had a candle burning. It was by "Glade", which I think you pronounce like the singer Sade, because it is an exotic candle that smells just like real pine.

Big shocker, right? I want to trade it in, but financially it's a better idea to drive it throught the rest of the winter.

it's to the left of the alt as you're standing in front. if it were leaking I'd imagine the belt would get wet and sling coolant upwards as well.

Sounds like either the intake AGAIN or your overflow hose is split somewhere. Its a 3800. Doing intake gaskets 10k miles at a time.

If it's the plastic L again you should be able to see it wet. Those POS bastards.

I've even had the rear cover gasket on a 3800 crack and leak, now there's a PITA repair. Having to separate the engine/trans to fix that leak.

Have you checked the belt tensioner? They do run coolant through that.

Good point. Kinda sounds like a waterpump or w/p gasket to me. I've done a couple front cover gaskets on these. Have access to a pressure tester? Powerwash the engine, let it dry, pressure test, find leak, profit?
