79 Pace car change in driveline

Farting around in the garage and got a couple things done. Primed the oil pump and mocked up the accessory brackets and other stuff to see how it looks. Need to order some more crap but I'm getting closer to getting it put in.

Easier to tune. Don't have to tear the entire unit apart to change jet/metering rods. Oh, and I like it.

Actually the valve covers are just sitting there right now. I need 1 different bolt for the March alternator bracket because the one in the kit is about 1/2" too short. Also discovered I will need a different alternator to work with this bracket. I have the same bracket on my 93 with a powermaster 140 amp 1 wire alt. I will probably go with that unit on this car as well. Unfortunately the Air cleaner that I bought is also slightly too large so I will need a 10" unit instead. That HEI distributor is BIG!

HEI was recommended by Casey on this one. I'm gonna have to trust his judgement as I have no clue.

Started doing a little work cleaning out some of the old wiring and trying to clean the engine bay. Still need to install new front soft break lines, V8 springs, and then put in the new M/C & break lines to the Proportioning valve. The hood release cable is going to get routed into the inner fender as well as some of the other harness. There are areas in the tunnel that I can't clean because the car was undercoated in 1980 by the original owner. I guess that was helpful in keeping this car in as good of condition as it is.

Also did the roll and tuck of the harness & breaklines that used to reside above the pinch seam on the firewall.


I will be doing away with more in the future but I need the assistance of a professional to guide my wire cutters in the right direction.

The pace cars had silver paint. The red and black was done by the previous owner. I need to do some paint work on the engine bay. There are some areas to touch up.

Oh I see. What was the reason for the different paint scheme? Was the prior owner trying to make it look like an older 80's Cobra?
