cleaning burnt exhaust tips?

I recently installed a magnaflow kit on my car about 2 weeks ago. the kit was a used kit. As i got everything put on i notice the tips were discolored. When i say that they look like they have a brownish flim on them. I have tried NEVER DULL to bring it back, I have used hot water and dawn soap, used wd40 to get other crude off of it. and the discolor is still there. they only thing i can see is to used 0000 steel wool on the tips but they are polished and i do not have any sort of metal buffer for them.

any suggestions?

I used sand paper on mine. Mine were stainless but not polished.

Issue fixed used eagle one chrome spray polish(acid). I let it foam and sit for a few minutes and the whipped it clean washed it with water. Dried it and the polished the pipe with mothers chrome/ aluminum polish wight he power ball. Looks like new. I'll be doing the steel wool method on the tail pipes soon

I use the eagle one on a lot of things to get the corrosion off. Let it sizzle for a while specially on nasty looking aluminum parts then as you say use whatever it takes to bring it back to the desired finish.
