Anyone else here go cross country skiing? I'm ordering up some newer ski gear, going to get a little more into that this winter (had planned to last winter, but we all know how that worked out). I ski classic style. Anyone interested in meeting up at a trail sometime?

I classic, it is pretty fun, and a lot more fun on well groomed trails.
A few years ago I picked up a cheapy pair of snow shoes and if there is a good amount (12"+) of snow I have a 100 times more fun on the snow shoes. I used to try and go through the woods with my ski's on and get my self all tangled up. With snow shoes you can go where ever you want.
If you have a desire to get from point A to point B and its mellow trail skis are the answer, but if your just out to have fun in the woods try snow shoes.

Around the metro, there are some pretty awesome xc ski trails.
I don't have a decent pair of snow shoes, and they are definitely on my list of things I want to get. Any good recommendations for starter snow shoes? I don't envision myself doing it a ton.Originally posted by NickThe choice is easy.

Ya, I have heard there are a lot of well maintained xc trails in the metro, so it probably is a pretty good time there. I would think around your cabin you could have a blast with snow shoes.Originally posted by Stormwalker View PostAround the metro, there are some pretty awesome xc ski trails.

I like to think of XC skis as a road bike, where snow shoes are a fat bike. Both can be fun but in much different ways.
I bought a cheap pair of tubs off ebay . They were under $200 with poles and gators. I rarely use the poles, but the gators are nice. I hate to say it, but I really can't see much reason to buy a more expensive set.
