Your Sawyer would be a little heavier if it were a size large like mineOriginally posted by RegalX View Postyour El mar is over 30lbs!
... and I thought my Sawyer was a tank at 26.6lbs
Mine is supposed to weigh in at 29.2 lbs in a size large. I've added that bashguard though. I haven't weighed it myself.
I could drop weight real fast with a wheelset change. 30lbs doesn't really bother me. Just keeps me in shape.
Maybe in a year or so I'll throw some money at it to get it around 25-26lbs.Originally posted by NickThe choice is easy.

Stormy, you ever build a set of wheels? I'd love to try a set of these, but obviously you're on your own when it comes to building or maintaining.Originally posted by Stormwalker View PostI find cheap Chinese carbon relevant to my interests...

Save yourself some money and get a set of light weight AL rims. Although initial strength maybe very good with carbon fiber, long term duribility (fatigue strength) is the worst out of any bike material. Carbon wheels are still a race-day only, except for the most hopefully optimistic.
A lot of guys are building light wheelsets this Stans no tube rims and having great results in terms of duriblility.

I wouldn't even consider a carbon rim for a MTB unless it was a race bike. The Stans rim are kind of a throw away rim as well, they are too light and don't hold up. I wouldn't trust anything sub 1500 grams on a mtb.

Those cheap carbon hoops seem to be all the rage on mtbr right now and people are claiming they are good for anything. Thanks for verifying my scepticism haha. I'm sure I'll be cruising the for sale section on morc and ebay when the time comes.
I'm surprised the Sawyer is a 19", isn't that a little big for you?Originally posted by NickThe choice is easy.

For some reason I thought you were shorter, which is weird because I've seen you.
Must be because most of your past bikes have been in the 17-18" range.
Also, nice weight on the Sawyer. Is that what they come in at off the shelf, or have you done a few things to it?Originally posted by NickThe choice is easy.
