    Oil spills.. Then and now..

Here is an interesting report on the oil disasters in 1979.. We might be dealing with this ruptured well for a long time since it took 9 months to stop a similar leak in the gulf back in '79 using the same methods they are using now.. But the well in 1979 was only 200 feet under the surface and not 5,000 like the DW Horizon well..

If you want to watch the live video feed from the BP website here it is..

They just had the ROV on the ship for some reason and are now lowering it back down now.. It takes a long time for it to reach the well site from the ship..

BP cuts pipe, plans to lower cap over Gulf spill

The cap will be lowered and sealed over the next couple of hours, said Coast Guard Adm. Thad Allen, the government's point man for the disaster.

Tune in to the live video feed http://www.bp.com/liveassets/bp_inte...ov_stream.html to watch them try and cap it.. The ROV is still being lowered to the well and should be working on the cap shortly..

When we got to my place, I already had a candle burning. It was by "Glade", which I think you pronounce like the singer Sade, because it is an exotic candle that smells just like real pine.

I've been watching this for a while and I have to say what they are doing makes little sense to me.

Since I'm on the internet, here's what I would do: Unbolt that flange they were just sawing away at and remove the broken piece. Prep a short pipe with a flange and a blow out preventer on the other end. Drop the new section down with the BOP open so it's possible to lower it on. After its bolted in place, close the BOP. /internet know-it-all

Have they made any sense yet? I saw some video where the guy (exec/scientist for BP) said this (tjhe current plan) was their best option....

The issue is that the integrity of the well is unknown and the pressure may blow it out. They cannot cap the well at this point, only contain the oil leak until the relief wells are completed.
