    Crazy European Drug Runners...

    2,000 HP Outboard Inflatable ..

Here's the latest drug runner toy from Europe .
This thing belts across the English channel 3 times per week and was just a blur on the radar of the British Coa st Guard. They were so astonished by the speed of the unknown craft, they brought in a special high speed helicopter to chase it. Drugs were found on board. Of course, you'd have to be on drugs to put the throttle down on this rig.

Damn...and I thought professional waterski boats were crazy....Seeing a ~16 foot boat with 3 250s hanging off the back is pretty impressive. But that's what it takes when you yank this around all day

That boat would not be all that fast. Maybe 60 to 70 MPH top speed, depending on load. The hull design is just not capable attaining much more than that.

IF that is a true smuggler boat, the reason for all the HP is for the weight of the load and fuel. It would take A LOT of fuel to run that thing.

70mph is more than fast enough to outrun the coastguard

70mph is fast for ANY boat, especially that thing.

Hmmm an inflatable boat filled with 4,000 gallons of fuel that can hit 70mph......I'll pass on that ride!

Whats the fastest the coast guard can do....40-50?

              Ahhhhh ha!

Yes, I would agree it is fast enough to beat the majority of the boats they probably use over there. I have heard the U S uses some confiscated offshore boats to catch smugglers here.

I guess I was thinking more in the realm of performance boats in general that 70 MPH is not all that fast.

Not even close. In the world performance boats, now days you aint nothing if you are not on the + side of 80 MPH. Even then, plenty of them running 100+ right out of the box with Mercury Racing power.

PS....that boat is not a true inflatable. The hull itself is a rigid hull, most likely cast of fiberglass or composite, from a single mold. It runs well above the waterline to where the inflatable sides are (which is what cuts the radar cross section down).

I don't really know what good a confiscated offshore would do you. If you don't have a cannon mounted up front to put a hole in their hull... catching them is kind of pointless if you can't stop them.

The shoot out their motors, coast guard does have guns. they will chase them till they stop. Have to stop somewhere or run out of gas in he middle of no where. Coast guard has radios, other boats and helicopters. So if a smuggler cant out run them speed wise they sure cant outlast them distance wise.

Don't have to outrun them to get to waters that the coast guard has no authority in.

I know the coast guard has guns, my point is, them (CG) using offshore boats would be pointless because there's nowhere to mount a gun.

Well, since there is no place to hide, all they need to do is follow until reinforcements are there!

Cuban waters seem like a pretty good place to hide. I was under the impression we can't touch em as soon as they make it there.

No idea, all I know is the U S Customs has some cool boats (planes and helicopters) catching drug runners down there. I would imagine they work close with the Coasties, but not sure just where each can go.

I tried to find a video I saw a couple years ago that looked to have been shot from a FLIR at night. It was a Customs offshore boat catching some drud runners. They ran into each other a few times and eventually ran aground and were caught.

There's not that many boats of that size that can hit 70mph. And 70mph is still pretty damn fast on the water....What's the most a factory Baja can hit, 80,85? Shit even when you start looking at offshore rigs there's not much out there doing 100+ and the ones that are probably aren't capable of carring 4,000lbs of blow!
