Before you all shake your head understand as cute and fuzzy as those creatures are they carry the bubonic plague.

They are a HUGE problem for ranchers out west. Cattle constantly break legs in their holes.

Also when approcahing a prarie dog town you must always do it from down wind.

There was a whole family killed years ago in North Dakota on vacation from visiting a prarie dog town. Plague killed them. It is airbourne contageous.

No no not the whole family. One had to live to tell the story

They were actually petting them, feeding them and playing with them at a popular prarie dog spot from what I remember reading in North Dakota.

Staying upwind/downwind (you get the jest) is just something I have been tought about them by my dad and uncle since I was a kid. (South Dakota Ranchers)
