I ordered a new camera last week. It's a Sony MiniDV. Have some questions...see below.



I want to make the best quality night videos I can for all my upcoming ass whoopings I will be delivering. I was thinking a wide angle lens, and the Sony Infrared Light thing. Does this sound like it will work? Does anyone have experience making high quality nightshot vids?

We all know that's not gonna happen Kurt. However, if you review last year I posted the vids of the two cars that beat me as well as the ones I crushed.

I have the sony infrared light for mine. If you want good night video, use nightshot but turn off the IR light. There's plenty of natural IR light for the cam to pick up to make the videos look good. My IR light is different from the one you pictured. Mine has IR beams, and has an actual light. I can use either.

Yeah, just turn off the built in nightshot IR light of the cam. That way the IR light won't reflect off of objects inside the car when in nightshot mode. Oh, and wideangle lense is good but not necessarily needed. It will reduce the amount of zoom you have (obviously) so if you're in a "chase" car and need to zoom it may not give the greatest results.

Yeah...batteries are a must. I have my included battery and a hicap battery. Both are dying now after being used so much. Fucking batteries.

The camera just came in...the thing is UBER small!! Time to run to Target and get some MiniDV tapes!

DONT use IR/Nightmode. It just makes the videos grainy and green and choppy (from 99% of the vids I've seen anyways). I think that if properly setup, normal color mode should work fine for most races..

As far as the wideangle goes, it may be kind of hard to see the cars because they would appear smaller from the lens. But it will be interesting to see.

I might...my cameraman last year for all my best races struggled mightily!!!
