My car story - in pics

So, once upon a time I had a sweet yellow mustang. It was originally red, but I had it repainted to yellow, and it was probably one of the first foxes in the TC to be yellow.

However, some guy in a pickup truck rear ended me while I was at a stoplight. I was stopped, he was going about 70mph, and it was a quad cab towing a roofing trailer. End of mustang.

I thought that it would be the last of my mustang days.

(I had just put headers, h pipe, mufflers, and tailpipes on it about 3 months prior to accident too...)

However, my dad ran across a good deal on an 88, and just used my insurance money to pick it up on the spot. Seems I was back in a mustang. The downside is that it was purchased shortly before it had to go into storage!

(mine is the white one, my buddy also stored his car at my parents house)

Well, I had fun with the new white mustang, which I began to autocross and tweak a little bit. However, my friend was beginning to get sick of me saying how I missed my yellow one all the time. Finally, he said, "Let's just paint it". I did not think I would have the cash, but he offered to just paint it up in my polebarn, giving me direction what to do for bodywork. Well, he finally convinced me and the project began.

Well, this time around I decided to splurge and get myself a cool looking hood if I was going to all the trouble of painting the car.

The interior was red, and so I decided to change it to black to better match the car color.

And so the body work began. Here is the car after glazing the imperfections we found.

Oh dear! Found a rust spot under the ground effects. We cut it out and welded in a piece of an old stove. It does not look pretty, but it is hidden under the ground effects, so it can be our little secret.

Finally after much work, the coat of sandable was on.

After we sanded the sandable primer, the epoxy, base and clear went on really quick. Unfortunately, it was hot and muggy out, so there was some orange peel in the finish, which still needs to be worked out. It is hard to notice unless you look at the car closely though.

Finally we were done. I was free to reassemble my car after almost a year's worth of work to it. I did not fall prey to rushing the job so I could finally drive it again. I meticulously went through every piece, making sure it was clean, had a proper fit, and was in good condition. The car also required a new front bumper cover, since the old one was unuseable (flexible, yet someone thought bondo would spruce it up).

Finally it was finished. I was very satisfied with the end product, as I did not really spend much money on it at all, and I finally had my yellow mustang back! In fact, better than ever!

That was a heartwarming story. I went through a whole box of kleenex reading it.....I never thought I would masterbate to it as much as I did.

Here's some more pics. I'm the odd one out, mine does not look the same as the other 3.

Great story man! I hear ya!
This summer I pulled the stang out early in MAY! Then June came around, stang got crashed! Its was a '90 Black GT...2 weeks after the accident I found a '89 Black Lx that need a engine/trans...I saved those 2 things and the rare Black interior and now my car is allmost the same...Next year It will look just like the old GT, with the pipes out the rear and the ground effects on it! My Avator is my old GT and my sig is my the one after.
Love the Yellow fox's! A few years ago thier was a guy who owned a yellow fox GT with white racing stipes on it, he lived over in Eagan, and I don't believe he was a TCstanger. Glad to hear thier are still fox's alive and on the streets! WootWoot
